Vehicle Detail
I bought this truck to restore and use as my daily driver. I really like the old styling of these trucks and that it has an all mechanical Cummins engine makes it that much better. The engine runs like a champ! I can't say enough about how impressed I've been with how well it performs. This is a 5 speed truck. First gear is real low, it's not needed unless your towing or hauling something big. I always start off in second gear. All gears shift smooth. I have installed a full 4" strait exhaust kit. I have also tuned up the VE pump and adjusted the throttle linkage so that it has full travel. Those few mods have really pepped the truck up. I have also converted the headlights over to HID. A few weeks back I hit a deer and it just busted the original grill to pieces, it also messed up the bumper and fender some. Luckily I found a great deal on a parts truck and since all the sheet metal on it was in much better shape I put it on my truck. Also all of the smaller brackets and such have been bead blasted and repainted, hood hinges, battery tray, radiator brackets, ext. I also cleaned up the cold side of the turbo and sprayed it with clear so it will stay clean and look nice. The turbo doesn't have any shaft play at all. The radiator had a little leak so I took it to be cleaned and repaired but the radiator shop wasn't able to fix it. So I bought a new radiator along with a clutch for the fan while I had easy access to it. I also bought a new chrome grille, headlight bezels, and turn signal lamps. I'm just about ready to paint it but my wife has made it very clear that I need to get rid of my truck and get a more family friendly truck. I thought about going ahead and painting it then selling, but the buyer may not like my choice in color. I'm leaning on the same color of brown that the truck has in the center of it. I was also going to sand blast the bed frame and install some new boards, sand blast the wheels and repaint them as well. Also I was going to get a new seat skin and door mirrors. Being that I haven't done those last few things I'm not trying to make any money off of this truck. It's a no reserve auction, I have placed the Buy it now at what I've invested in it. These trucks are getting harder to find and they're starting to be a collector. The odometer stopped working at 208k, but that is very common on these trucks. It's also common to find these trucks with well over 1,000,000 miles on them, look it up. I change the oil regularly with Rotella T oil, and Mopar/Cummins oil filter. Other than that everything on this truck works. I've converted the AC over to 134a its nice and cold, heat works, windshield wipers work, block heater works, ext. As I said earlier I drive this truck every day, I average 100 miles daily. The truck gets 22-25 mpg on the highway depending on your driving habits. You will not be disappointed at all! Happy bidding!
