Vehicle Detail

This is a very original example of a Classic American car. It has not been interfered with too much over the decades, and has all the provenance and patina that one would expect on a 57 year old car.Although it has 58,7 miles on the clock, there's no way of knowing how genuine that is on an antique car. It has had some paintwork, and in some small areas could do with some slight attention, yet it looks great and it is honestly presented as what it is. This Classic turns heads wherever it goes.It is not "as new" but it is very useable, driveable and one of those cars where the fact that it starts, runs and drives well for its age prevents one from stripping it down to the bare chassis for a total rebuild which would take years and tens of thousands. It aint broke, so don't fix it. The previous owner had it for 11 years and has replaced the starter motor, exhaust, carburettor and generator. I'm only selling it as I don't spend much as much time over here as I'd hoped (being UK based) and also it hasn't got a way to fit a seat for the new baby.Price comparisons are always difficult on cars of this age, as condition varies so much, but here's a link to a 1958 model on sale at $39,990..... http://classiccar.chooseyouritem.com/classics/files/15075000/15075415.html. I think it's overpriced. Anyway, check out others on sale and you'll see that this is a bargain! The car doesn't have power steering, power windows, or aircon. None of that is a problem. Acually it's an advantage; - less to go wrong. Question; "Does it have any rust, rot holes in the floor fenders rockers etc." Of course it has some corrosion. It was new in 1956. I'm not going to say it's rust-free, but I am going to say that I'm surprised how good it is considering that in 1956 they beleived in planned obsolescence rather than galvanic plating. (I can't see any holes either) Question: "How does she run, are the brakes good?" It runs well. The brakes stop her briskly. She starts immediately and runs well. Less than 4000 miles ago, the distributor & HT leads were replaced, the carb was overhauled, the exhaust was replaced and the engine had a top overhaul. I have the receipts for these items. Question: "What grade would you give to the paint and chrome" I'd say that the paint and chrome are around 7/8. Could be improved on, but where do you stop? Like I said before, with a car this age you accept the signs of aging and just drive it like that, or you go for the bare shell rebuild and make a fake new one two years and $30k later. On Apr-11-11 at 19:56:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Monday 11th April. I have been asked some more questions, so here the answers for all; Question: "What is the engine number?" - I have located a number on the offside cylinder head and put a picture of it in the ad. The number is 1713416C. The last "C" could be a "0" - it's a bit hard to see in there. Question: " What are the tires like?" - They look OK. I guess that they are 75% worn, and if I was going to keep her, I'd look at replacing them with radials which I'm told improve the handling. The tires on there now are Cooper Untouchable 4 ply G78-15. Question: "If I was to offer you $XXXX would you end the auction early and do a side deal with me?" - Well, I'm using ebay because I want to be straight up with everyone and as I leave for the UK next weekend until Fall, I need to use the ebay process to keep it simple. I can't be running another auction outside an ebay auction, so if you found the car on ebay, my best advice is to just bid for it on ebay.
