Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1991 Chevy K1500 ½ Ton Pickup Truck that I’ve owned for the last 17 years. The original owner was a Post Office employee that lived in the Leesburg Virginia area, and I bought it in 1994 from Jerry’s Ford in Leesburg VA when it had 31,000 miles on it, and have kept it in a garage for all but the last 4 years. It’s been driven very little and currently has about 66,000 original miles on the odometer. It’s basically been the “family Cadillac” over the years and was well maintained. There is no body panel rust anywhere, and is in very good condition for a 20 year old truck. I owned this truck in Southern Virginia for part of the years I’ve owned it, and meticulously sprayed the underbody if driven on salt infested roads in Ohio. I installed Splitfire (dual electrode) spark plugs (I don’t think they make those anymore) Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid in the 5 speed transmission and transfer case (as recommended by a Vette fanatic at a local Chevy garage), and Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in the front and rear 10” pumpkin balls (axle assemblies.) I’ve run mostly Mobil 1 synthetic oil in the engine, although a few times I got by on some 10W-30 Pennzoil and Slick 50. It’s an 8’ full size bed, has a Leer fiberglass camper top (I painted the camper top myself with acrylic enamel, and the paint job shows my air gun painting skills…ok but nothing to write home about, but at least the paint matches very well) and a plastic ribbed bed liner. The truck was originally fitted with a 5th wheel hitch, and you’ll see a small square plate cut out of the center of the plastic bed liner where the 5th wheel hitch was mounted. The truck is wired for trailering and has an electronic brake controller for trailers with axle brakes. Has 36 gallon fuel tank, anti lock brakes, tilt steering, cruise control, cassette player and AM/FM radio. Never smoked in, smoke free. Has the original GM floor mats, and the jack and tire changing equipment is still latched in the compartment behind the passenger seat. The interior is close to “new” condition, and the exterior finish is in excellent condition. I just replaced the front rotors and brake shoes. I inspected the rear brake shoes and drums and lubed the cables and pins, still in very good condition and appears to have at least another 75k miles left in them. While I was at it, I drained and replaced about 75% of the brake fluid with Valvoline synthetic brake fluid. Everything is “stock” except the Jet power chip (I have the box, and the original factory EPROM chip), the K&N Air filter, the Midas lifetime muffler with low restriction exhaust. It has a Bulldog security system installed, but I disconnected it, it was only good for pulling up into a parking lot and pushing the panic button and listening to it yell “Help! Help!” to get a laugh out of folks. It has a 350 cubic inch (5.7 litre) V8 small block Chevy engine and a 5 speed manual transmission (not an automatic.) It has split bench seating, meaning the driver can move the seat forward or backward without affecting passenger seating. Because it is a 20 year old truck, obviously I’m not selling with any kind of return or warranty or other agreements, when you buy it, it’s yours and is therefore being sold “as is.” The engine, 4 wheel drive mechanisms, shifting into and out of 4WD mode and everything mechanical works as expected without issues, and there are no “funny” noises or sounds eminating from the truck. If you are the buyer, I’d check the fluid levels in the front and rear axles, the transmission and transfer case, they were topped off about 9 years ago but have never been checked since. The truck is located on the SE side of Columbus Ohio, about 5 miles off I70 Exit 112 near Pickerington. Both parties need to sign the back of the title, my wife can Notarize, and you’ll need to go to the local DMV (the Pickerington office is about 4 miles from my house and closes at 5:00 PM weekdays) to obtain either temporary or permanent tags for the truck. If I were coming from a long distance, I’d want to know if there is any “dirt” on this vehicle, so I’m going to list everything I can think of in advance. Everything on the truck works as it should with no issues except for the following notes: 1. The Leer camper top – the door struts are worn with age, and need replaced. They do a very poor job of holding the door up. I’m guessing about $35 to replace. The aluminum finish on some parts of the 20 year old Leer topper is showing its age and could use some buffing. 2. The wiper blade motor – works fine, with no noise, but I’ve noticed over the last 2 – 3 years, if the truck has been sitting outside in damp weather, the wiper motor won’t start. If it warms up outside, if the engine has been running for a while and warms up the engine compartment, they start working. Probably some contacts or the wiper motor needs replacing. 3. The A/C worked great till 2 years ago, until one day the digital display in the dash started flashing and there was no AC. A mechanic replaced the digital dash AC controller (shown in one of the pictures) with another used controller, and replaced the R12 freon with R134. The AC worked fine for the next 1 ½ years, but last fall, I noticed that the AC light was flashing again. If I disconnect the battery and then reconnect, the AC starts working fine again, plenty of cold air, but after about 20 – 30 minutes ,the AC indicator in the dash starts flashing again and no AC once again. Probably needs recharged, a pressure sensor or the digital controller in the dash may be bad. Considering the amount of cold air it puts out when running, it wouldn’t seem to be something like the compressor. 4. The oil and antifreeze are both due to be changed in the near future. I may go ahead and change the oil this week. The antifreeze is at least 7 years old; I like to replace that at least every 5 years so it’s overdue. 5. There’s a few cosmetic flaws. I tried to show all of them in the photos. They are: a. The chrome on the front bumper has started to show that “old” chrome look, there’s some light pitting, very small, can’t see it if you’re more than 10 yards from the truck, but you can definitely see it up close. b. The rear mud flap near the exhaust was eventually burned by the exhaust. c. The aluminum wheels have the original plastic factory coating, but some age is showing, and it appears that the lead wheel weights have reacted with the aluminum and are showing some corrosive action on the surface. d. I have tried to always park the truck away from others on the parking lots, but I still picked up a few small door dings, there’s 1 – 2 door dings on each side of the truck. e. There’s a small indention, about the size of a quarter perhaps, on the rear tail gate, it’s so shallow that you can’t see if looking directly at the back of the truck, but you can see it at an angle if the light shines on it just right. f. There’s a small scratch just above the tail gate latch. g. On the two tone red paint, on the right side, there’s a few light scratch marks that have a little touch up paint on them. h. The front grille, they’re usually made of plastic, and the “chrome” coating overlaying the plastic has bubbled up in a few places. i. The VIN# under the windshield is the “legit” VIN#. After I bought the truck, I was told that the door was damaged and they replaced it with another, so the VIN on the door doesn’t match. Oddly enough, I didn’t notice that for a month after buying the truck in 1994, the paint is a spot on match, you can’t tell by looking at the truck. j. The tires are worn, there’s as little as 1/8” of tread remaining in some places, you might get another few thousand miles out of them, but you’ll want to replace these 16” P265 tires soon. k. If you want to pull really heavy loads, this may not be “your” truck. It has 3.08 axles that are geared for gas mileage. I have towed up to 4,500 lbs (a camper) without much trouble (never tow in 5th gear if towing over 4,000 lbs, not recommended by Chevy on the otherwise sturdy 5 speed transmission), and suspect it’ll tow at least 6,000 lbs, after that, not sure what it would do with that much weight. Avoid spammers and scammers. I don't take second chance offers. I don't take auctions off Ebay and then contact you later. I don't end auctions early. I don't ask you to wire or send money in advance and then "ship" or send the truck to you. This will be picked up in person, you can try the truck and conduct a final inspection, and then pay for the truck in person. Personal checks, wire transfers, electronic "gee whiz" payment options not accepted. On Apr-04-11 at 05:37:26 PDT, seller added the following information: I've gotten several questions over the last couple days, requests to go over the truck and recheck and report on some things. I believe the pictures show it better than I can describe, but wanted to make sure the truck was presented as accurately as possible, would rather have someone happy than disappointed! Someone spotted some faded paint on the windshield wiper arms; that's correct, the paint's faded and / or bare in some of the most exposed areas. I think that can be dressed up pretty easily though or else replace the arms. I took the bug shield off about every 3 - 4 years and washed, waxed and applied a very light coating of oil under the bug shield along the metal trim edge, so for the person that asked about that, there was no hint of rust under there last time I had it off (3 years ago.) Although the bug shield prevented nearly all stone chips, you'll likely find a few very small stone chips here or there, a couple on the hood, a couple on the side of the truck, especially around the wheel wells, and of course, there can be plenty of them on the underside in the red paint area where the mud flaps didn't protect all the way back (you can see that in the picture of the lower red paint trim behind the wheel well near the rear bumper) and so on. There's a few fine, small hairline scratches around the driver door handle that aren't easy to see, probably from inserting the key into the lock in the dark and putting a little scratch on the paint. Around the tailgate, there may be a couple fine hair width scratches near the top of the tailgate, those look like they didn’t go down to the primer and may be buffed out; and I see a little gray paint that was shaved off the edge of the tailgate on the right corner (maybe 1/2" long and 1/8" wide and not that easy to spot because it's on the corner.) On the inside of the bed on the tailgate, any surface not protected by the plastic guard may show a few paint chips or scratches. The manufacturers were not quite up to the level of perfection that they have now, if you poke around in the tailgate area, you'll even find a few square inches of exposed metal sheeting that still has the gray factory primer but no charcoal paint finish on the underside corners, but you have to dig pretty hard to find that, not visible otherwise. For that matter, their sheet metal stamping at that time was very good but not a work of perfection either, especially on really large surfaces, if you're a real perfectionist, you can probably find a slight bow or ripple sometimes in the sheet metal, but not from any kind of damage, but because it was from the factory that way and also pretty difficult for the average person to see. Inside the truck bed, anywhere the plastic bed liner didn't cover and there's exposed paint, like along the top inside edge of the bed, most of it is in excellent condition but there can be some scratches here or there. I've had the topper on the truck since I've owned it; I saw the bed of the truck under the bed liner just once 17 years ago, for the person that asked, it was not beat up or dinged or rusted, in excellent condition at that time and showed no abuse from someone tossing wood or rocks onto a "bare" unprotected bed. The paint on the leer topper, it is a 20 year old topper, and my paint job doesn't have the clear coat finish, therefore the texture (and definitely the quality of the paint job, it almost has more of a satin finish than glossy) is different than the factory clear coated paint on the truck, and as I'd mentioned earlier, the aluminum has an faded, aged finish. Hope this answers all questions, if you're in the area, you're welcome to stop by and see the truck if you wish. Most folks that have seen it, a couple of relatives and friends at work, expressed an interest in buying it and were pretty surprised at the condition it's in; I told them I'd rather put it up for bidding on Ebay because I wasn't sure how to price it.
