Vehicle Detail
A Very Rare Opportunity Indeed ! A 1943 matching numbers BMW military R 75 with Sidecar. The existence of military sidecar rigs of this caliber are few and far between in Europe, to find one here in the United States is almost unprecedented. Due to the circumstances under which most of these machines were operated, surviving specimens with matching numbers are almost unheard of. A BMW R75 restorer in Germany recently indicated that he hasn’t seen a matching number R75 in twenty five years! Approximately 18,000 of these R75’s were built, but many were destroyed in the war. The ones that survived were oftentimes built of parts of other cannibalized machines. Little is known about the recent history of this 1943 BMW R75, but the attention to the details of its previous restoration is obvious to even the most casual observer. This very impressive and massive machine is an absolute delight to drive. If you have never driven one, I guarantee you will be amazed and surprised at how agile and comfortable this rig is ! All three numbers match; frame, engine and yoke tag. BMW Archives researched their records and although their records of this era are spotty, the authenticity of this very masculine piece of history has been verified. The engine typically starts on the first or second kick, hot or cold, and runs without smoking or unusual sounds. The engine idle is smooth and reliable. The exhaust headers and muffler are in excellent condition, are quiet and free of rust, as is the whole machine. The power of the 750cc overhead valve engine, coupled with the multi-speed transmission with high and low ranges, results in the mechanical agility to operate both slowly and over rough terrain, as well as the ability to run down the road at a respectable pace, easily keeping up with secondary road traffic. The telescopic front end is tight and the rig is easily maneuvered while being ridden with one, two, or three people aboard. We have noted that the forward and reverse speed transmission functions well in both the high and low ranges with normal shifting, using either the foot or hand shifter. There is no tendency to jump out of gear under acceleration or deceleration. The locking mechanism for the sidecar wheel drive functions normally. Imagine 8 forward speeds, 2 reverse speeds and a lockable final differential! If only this thing could talk! The cable operated front brake, as well as the hydraulic motorcycle rear brake and linked hydraulic sidecar brake function normally. All four wheels and tires are in excellent condition. The matt finish desert tan paint of the frame, suspension, and motorcycle sheetmetal, as well as the sidecar sheetmetal and upholstery is all in excellent condition. The rubber and vinyl parts are all supple and the finish of the woodwork on the sidecar floor is excellent. The operator and pillion passenger Drilastic seats are in very good repair as well as very comfortable. The sidecar body has two bag mounts up front, each of which carries an included quality made leather bag and of course there is a trunk under the spare. Although the odometer indicates 13,585 km, the true distance travelled by this machine is unknown and unknowable. This unique one of a kind BMW R75 with sidecar will be advertised concurrently elsewhere. Therefore, we reserve the right to end this auction early. I urge you to consider this offering carefully and seriously. Machines of this era and quality don't come around often. Those who know the BMW R75 military bike with sidecar will assure you that you will not be disappointed !
