1978 Rare Mercedes Benz 450 SLC V8 Auto No Reserve Auction -- Lot's of people young and old comment on the classic style and good looks of this car. This is the 4.5L V-8 U.S. 450SLC model. Metallic Rust exterior with tan leather. Vehicle has been meticulously maintained inside and out. Mercedes Benz only produced 31,759 450 SLC's from 1972 1980. This car drives very smooth and starts every time, however it does have issues. I'll start with the good. Good: Clear Title Over $5000 invested in the last 2 years Gas tank to engine all refurbished or replaced, so starts every time Engine strong No colors coming from exhaust Body has no rust or rusty paint bubbles All electric windows work Electric Sunroof works Hood and front fender paint is nice and shiny. Easily drives 100 mph Very smooth on the highway Brakes good Tires good Dash is good Transmission works good Door panels and headliner in good shape Not aware of any repairs or wrecks, nothing visible from outside or underside California car for most of it's life Lights, fogs, horn all work great No evidence of ever being repainted More pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/leissler/1978Benz450SLC# Bad: Heater is flaky A/C does not blow cold Turn signals work but you have to hold to the left or right Power steering is leaking on engine Front Tie Rods loose Driver seat has holes as shown in close up Old cell phone has not been turned on in a while, not sure if it works One of the rear trailing arms clunks and needs a $120 in replacement bushings Top and rear trunk and rear quarter panels have oxidized paint Air cleaner cover top is rusty You are welcome to test drive and I can take any pictures you want. In one of the pictures, the black lines are reflections from the power lines above. All glass including windshield, doors, and back window are good with no cracks or pits. The power steering is dripping and the car can be driven a few hours. Someone asked about Eugene and that is fine. Someone asked about driving 3-4000 miles to New York, it is possible but I'm sure the steering fluid would leak out by then.
