Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on my 1970 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible. The engine is a 455 cu. in. Rocket with 4 bbl carburetor. It runs and rides great. The transmission, drive shaft and rear differential are good. I had some repairs done recently so I can drive it again and planned to restore the body, top and interior until I discovered that the frame is in bad shape. Some sections of the frame are okay. Some are bad. I can poke holes with my finger in the section of the frame in front of the driver side rear wheel. This vehicle has been garaged for the past 30 years. The brake system was inspected and any bad hoses along with the master and two wheel cylinders were replaced. The rear brake drums were resurfaced. In the cooling system, the water pump, heater control valve and hoses were replaced. A fuel line and the fuel filter was replaced.Oil and oil filter were replaced. It runs great except that idle is not completely smooth. It could probably use a tune-up. The instrument panel is completely original. The gas gauge is mis-calibrated and the radio does not work. The driver side power window switch failed. I attempted to repair but wasn't very successful. In order to restore this car, the body and drive train will have to be removed and the frame sand-blasted, bad sections replaced and the whole thing resealed. Maybe the respective buyer and use parts of it to restore another like it. The winning bidder will need to bring a flat-bed wrecker for transport. Thanks for your interest and happy bidding. On Mar-16-11 at 20:17:57 PDT, seller added the following information: A prospective buyer asked if the convertible top worked. It does. I will upload more photos as proof on Thursday 3/17. I checked a couple of more things on the vehicle. The power bench seat controls produce a relay click but the seat does not move. Also, the power door lock switch on the driver's door works the driver's lock but doesn't affect the passenger door. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier but didn't think to check. More features I forgot to mention: There is a push button switch in the glove box that opens the trunk. There is a Chapman lock that kills the ignition and prevents the hood from being opened. Thanks. On Mar-17-11 at 15:30:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 3 more pictures. Thanks again for your interest. On Mar-19-11 at 18:59:34 PDT, seller added the following information: In the third to last sentence of my original description I stated: Maybe the respective buyer and use parts of it to restore another like it. I meant to say: Maybe the prospective buyer can use parts of this vehicle to restore another like it.On Mar-20-11 at 18:06:46 PDT, seller added the following information: In my original description above, I stated that one of the tasks I wanted to do was restore the body. Let me make it clear that the vertical surfaces of the paint are shiny but the horizontal surfaces are dull. The car definitely needs a paint job. Thanks gain.
