Vehicle Detail
This is a 1965 Jaguar 3.8S sedan that is a true barn find. The previous owner told me that an elderly woman drove this car and when she got too old her son drove it into their barn and it sat there for 30 years. The last registration sticker on the car is from 1979 which substantiates this and the car looks like a barn find should. The woman who originally drove the car has her name on the glove box. Refer to photos. This is no made up story to sell the car. The car has a clear PA title and it is properly signed over and notorized. You will only have to fill in your name and you are all set. Okay now for the condition report. The car appears to be complete with the exception of the center spline in the grill and the round emblem at top attached to it. There is minor damage to the grill and I think it is likely that this part was removed to be fixed and it was never put back. One small front side light is bent and out of its socket. I have it with the car. Its trim ring may be missing? The original tool box with some tools is with the car. This is rare. The car has its original wire wheels which have rusty spokes from sitting in the barn. The wire wheel spare is in the trunk and does not have such rusty spokes obviously. One tire keeps going flat soince it is tubeless. This car has the usual Jaguar rust areas with a few important exceptions! I am fussy about floors and trunk. I WILL NOT buy a car with a rusted out trunk or floors. This car has an excellent trunk and the floors are not rusted out. Refer to the photo of the underside. It is in amazing shape. You can see the floor pans, I took this pic from under car. I did not want to rip up the carpet. This car is a time capsule. It was parked and forgotten about. The seats are intact but need to be restored. There is cracking and separation in the leather. The star attraction I think on this car is its wood dashboard! It is quite NICE! Yes it has some grungy varnish but it has wonderful color and is in good shape. So are the gauges. In a western car you may get less lower body rust but the wood dash will be junk! Delaminated, dried out, peeling, sun faded! JUNK!! I know. I looked at many cars before getting this one. On these cars the beauty is in the wood dash and gauges and the wood on the doors etc. I prefer to have nice wood and fix the body panels. Why you ask? I have seen wood dashes that are new or heavily restored and they look like hell. All bleached out wood and no color or patina or grain. No point in owning one of these cars if you need a new or completely restored dash. That is my opinion, formed, after seeing the restored western cars. No thanks! By the way the western cars seem to get rust holes in the floors. I looked at many and even though the lower body panels were fairly rust free, these cars often had holed floors. Don't ask me why, I am just reporting what I saw. I hate holed floors. Anyway this car of mine has typical Jaguar rust behind the wheel wells and in the lower rear quarters and some in the rockers. I think the rockers may be able to be patched and not replaced? I could be wrong though? The lower doors are okay which is a BIG plus. The core of this car is very good. When you look underneath it is surprisingly rust free. The outer lower body panels rusted but the underside stayed fairly good. This is also a major plus. The trunk is wonderful. Have a look at the pics. The washer fluid bottle is in the trunk. It might not take much effeort to get this car running. It drove into the barn and the engine is just as it was then. I would imagine that new gas, wires, cap, battery, enginge oil and there should be no reason why this car will not start. The previous owner who was very disorganized lost the key, so you will have to have one made. It is not expensive. This is a nice car that needs to be completely restored. It is a true barn find and it has a stoopidly low reserve. I even spelled that wrong to emphasize stupidly. lol The reserve price is 1500. The 1965 3.8 litre engine is worth more than that to a guy who has a 65 XKE Jag with no motor. The tool kit has to be worth a few hundred by itself. In fact this car is probably worth an easy 5000 in parts alone. It is too good of a car to part out though and I would rather it be restored by someone else than for me to part it out and get more money. I prefer to preserve nice old objects over greed. I am no longer able to afford the cost of restoring this car. My mom and I have had big medical bills and I need to stay closer to home since her health is fading. This negatively affects my job and my income. Someone else who has the resources needs to buy this car and restore it. My photos will tell the story. The car can remain here for as long as you need. I pulled it out of the garage to photograph it and now it is stuck where it sits until the snow leaves and the ground dries out. I want paid in full with paypal or a bank wire transfer or a cashiers check within 3 days after the auctions ends. There are 2 reasons for this. One I need the money, and 2, this way if the car pops up again relisted you will know that no buyer came here and rejected the car within 3 days! If it gets relisted it will only be because of a non paying buyer and NOT because there is anything wrong with the car!! The car is accurately described and is a good car to restore. It has many good photos. It needs complete restoration. There is no mystery and there are no surprises. I accept paypal or a bank wire transfer or cashiers check only. The car can remain here until you are ready to pick it up. No rush and no storage fees. You must trailer this car or have someone come and get it for you. I will help in any way I can. Thanks and Happy Bidding!
