Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1984 Mercedes Benz 300sd turbo diesel at no reserve. As far as I know, the car had one owner prior to me who purchased it new and it spent its life in SoCal, so it has absolutely NO RUST. I have the complete service history from the original owner within a binder over an inch thick. It is fairly difficult to find a MB of this vintage with such a complete service history. Add to that the fact that it is powered by a proven MB turbo diesel engine that is easily converted to run on bio-diesel, WVO or SVO, and you have the ultimate insurance policy against escalating crude oil prices. Don't be fooled by the mileage on these MBs. A well maintained MB such as this one can easily run up to 500k miles before any major issues or overhaul. Mechanically, this MB is in excellent condition. Since owning it, I put in a new battery, new voltage regulator and changed a bad glow plug. Oil is changed every 2,500 miles with Mobil Delvac. Transmission shifts very smooth and fluid was changed less than 3 months ago. Steering is nice and tight and suspension is in good shape. The tires are also new with more than 90% tread life on them. Everything works, except for the power antenna which is stuck up. Probably the strongest proof of the condition of this MB is the detailed service history that the prior owner meticulously maintained. It has been professionally serviced by an independent MB service station in San Juan Capistrano with thousands of dollars in receipts for work performed over the years to keep this car running in tip-top condition. The car also comes with the original owner’s manual and an extra set of keys. However, as all cars of this vintage, there are some signs of age. The clear coat on the hood, roof, trunk and right rear door is peeling and you can see from the pictures the chrome on the rear bumper is also peeling. However, the body is in very good condition without any dents or more importantly rust. Included with the car are some euro spec headlights and the rear bumper chrome insert which I was planning on installing after having the car painted; however, a recent knee surgery has placed all my plans on hold. The leather interior is in relatively good shape for a car this age; however, it does show moderate wear on the driver’s bolster and passenger seat pad, but more importantly, the seats are still firm and don't sag. All electronics in the car work except for the power antenna as mentioned earlier, which is stuck in the mid position. The power windows roll at the touch of a switch, sunroof glides, A/C blows cold and cruise control also functions. The transmission shifts smoothly and in tune with the diesel engine. A common flaw of these older diesel MB engines is a poor shifting transmission; however, this transmission shifts seamlessly through the gears and downshifts timely when extra power is needed, making the car quite peppy but civilized for city and highway driving. Overall, this is a great car that will serve the right person well for many more years to come. If you are not familiar with these older MBs, please do your research as these are not the modern day tin cans that are mass produced, but a real marquee made by engineers without any cost constraints, contrary to modern cars which are disposable and cheaply made. Treated right, this car will easily run another 25 years before needing any major work. The car can be seen locally on weekends if you wish to do so. If you are from out of town and wish to have the car shipped, I can deliver it within a 50 mile radius to the nearest shipping terminal to help you save some expense. If you wish to drive it out of state, I will be more than happy to deliver the car to the airport whenever you are flying in. Happy bidding! On Feb-27-11 at 09:40:21 PST, seller added the following information: Below are links to 2 videos of the car (copy and paste the link into your URL if link does not work). One is a fairly short drive just to show how it rides and shifts. The second is a walk around of the car with engine running. I tried to also focus on the paint peeling as it is not very clear in the pictures, but probably more clear in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyvBLxj9ZhU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HuS2P2yLA0 The VIN# is WDBCB20A3EA076579 if you want to pull a CARFAX vehicle history on it; for some reason, the eBay AutoCheck will not pull a history - I tried looking into it, but eBay said this happens sometimes when there are not enough public records (CARFAX only shows 2 records). I'm guessing there is not much in the way of DMV records since diesels are not required to be smogged in CA, so the 2 public records are probably the original owner registering the car and me registering the car when I bought it from him, as those would be the only likely incidents to trigger a DMV record for this car. However, I have a scanned copy of the title which I can email upon request (provide private email address). Thanks!
