Purchased new in Sweden as a 25th wedding anniversary gift, and maintained by its original owners for 15 years. Car was special ordered with 5-speed transmission and traction control, and delivery was taken directly at the Volvo factory in Sweden. Dinner and a tour of the new 850 assembly facility was provided by executives of the company, and they emphasized that Volvo's reputation as one of the world's safest and most durable automobiles would depend on achieving the highest possible standards for the new 850 model. They obviously succeeded, because the quality and durability of this model has proved to be legendary. After this car's delivery was complete, its first miles were driven on the Volvo test track, and it was then prepared for shipment to the U.S.. It arrived through the Port of New Jersey, spent less than one year in upstate New York, and has resided in Florida ever since. Since arriving here in the States, this no-frills 850 has been conservatively driven and properly maintained by auto enthusiast owners who view this car as something special. Its current condition is EXCELLENT, and reflects years of proper care and maintenance. It runs smooth and quiet, drives perfectly, and steers and stops with precision. It has been serviced regularly with Mobil-1 oil and filters, and has no leaks anywhere. The original paint and upholstery show hardly any wear and tear for their age, and it is equipped with the 60/40 fold dwn rear seat. This allows lengthy items to be transported in the trunk, while still allowing for a rear passenger. I encourage you to enlarge all of photos and examine them closely. The car has never been exposed to road salt, and it is absolutely 100% rust-free. The brakes recently had a major overhaul that included new front rotors and pads, rear drum resurfacing and shoes, and new ABS distribution valve. A new fuel filter was also installed on a subsequent maintenance visit. All work was performed by the highly reputable Paul Derbyshire, Master Mechanic of the Volvo Stop in South Florida. The car does need a few things, but most of them are minor or optional. The dash lights don't illuminate, and the tachometer only works intermittently. The dash pad is also slightly distorted from the car being parked facing the Florida sun during the work week. The only other thing I can think of is the A/C which is ready for a recharge. It still blows cold, but not ice cold. If you wish to fly to Florida and drive this car home, I would be glad to pick you up at either West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale International airport.
