Vehicle Detail
This is a 1967 Pontiac Tempest Convertible In 1967 the Pontiac Tempest Custom convertible model was the least made. Only 4,082 models were made. It has a Pontiac-built 230 cubic-inch overhead cam six, the only such engine found in an American production car at that time. This was also the first American-built engine to use a belt to time the camshaft to the crankshaft rather than a chain. The base OHC had a one-barrel carburetor and was rated at165 hp (123 kW; 167 PS), designed for economy buyers. Optionally available as part of the Sprint option package on two-doors was a four-barrel, high-compression 270 hp (201 kW; 274 PS) version of the OHC six, marketed as an alternative to higher-priced European sport sedans, which had similar OHC engines. This car is a factory Sprint model. This car runs but would a make a great restoration project. It is a california car so it is very solid with almost little rust. there are a few dents on the body nothing major except for the passenger rear quarter panel. It is a very rare car with the factory options it has. For any questions or to schedule an appointment to view please call (530)872-1182 and ask for Garv. This is a recent e-mail I received. They made 163 Tempest Sprint convertibles in the 3 speed. The auto was rarer still. In years of searching, I have only found 2 other 67 convertibles with the manual trans still intact. I'd safely say, you have 1 of less than 10 left in the world (if original drivetrain). Hemmings called the Sprint one of the upcoming collectible cars to look for. Thank you for your interest and bids.
