Vehicle Detail
Hello, up for auction is an extremely clean un-restored car that has retained all of it's original sheetmetal & power train components. It has a 35 year old repaint & has won numerous 1st & 2nd place awards including 1st place at Concours d'Elegance Chambly & Granby, Quebec, 1st & 2nd at NRCC, Silver at it's very first AMO show in "Javelin Stock Class", twice 1st at local Mopar (CMOA) & was invited to be put on display at the 2009 Montreal International Auto Show (Photos attached). I'm currently the 3rd owner & personnally know & met with the original owner, vehicle currently has approximately 65000 miles. This vehicle is all original with it's original 401 engine (numbers cast on each side of block), TF 727 transmission, 2.87 non-Twin-Grip differential. It comes highly documented with the bilingual owners manual with VIN label attached, service manual, sales brochure & '73 AMC Order Guide to name but a few of the documents I have. It is also 1 of 9 401 Javelins sold in Quebec. Many parts have been date coded to match the vehicles production date & is also believed to be an original Trans-Am Victory package car however I do not have any proof of this apart from documents which I have from an American Motors sales bulletin stating when this package was released & what was included in this package. This car fits this package which applied to vehicles built between 10-15-72 to 12-15-72, this car has a build date of 11/72. The package included a sports styled steering wheel, space saver spare tire & 14" Rallye wheels which are part of this vehicle. The Trans-Am decals we're never installed based on the originals owners comments having purchased this vehicle in June '73. Vehicle was the parts manager demo at the time of purchase from a north eastern Quebec AMC dealership. The parts manager did install the rear trunk spoiler, I still have the stainless molding. The original owner damaged the front left fender while backing out of her garage, "yes she was 18 years old when she bought this vehicle, have photo"! She then decided to repaint the entire care in '76 & also replaced the vinyl roof from cinnamon to brown, I have her original photos. The under carriage has been completely detailed by the 2nd owner in the late '80's & all under coating was removed to reveal a true rust free car, this car was never driven in snow apart from being stored outdoors during it's first winter, again I have photos as proof! All other winters the vehicle was stored indoors as it is now currently in dry storage. Many NOS parts are currently on this car, many new parts including suspension, brakes, exhaust have been replaced including a new set of E-70-14 Good Year Poly Glass tires. Date coded spark plug wires, AMC fuel & oil filter & very rare dual snorkel air filter assembly. All Air Guard anti-pollution parts are on this vehicle & are functional! I have a complete set of replacement stripes including the "Trans-AM Victory" decals (not installed), many spare used & some new come with the sale of this vehicle including light lens, dash pad, cluster, arm rest, grille original dual exhaust tail pipes with factory chrome tips & many more, simply too many to list. Interior is in very good condition, carpet, headliner, seats all original. Seats show very little wear, dash pad has no cracks & the "etched type" scuff plates are in very good condition. This car with it's original set of keys plus a spare set, is equipped with an AM radio, retractable antenna (great for installing the car cover!), rear window defogger, all are operational. Car still has the Trico wiper blades, engine hose clamps are the original tower type (Witek) clamps & reproduction coolant hoses. The original 401 engine was refreshed in the '90's with new valves with hardened valve seats, new rings, timing chain & gears, timing cover & new water pump. The engine has a stock bore & the crank is not a regrind, engine runs like it left the factory. I installed a Pertronix I Electronic ignition system (points replacement type) & engine starts very well & is very reliable as is the entire car. This is a type of car where you hop in turn the key & away you go...anywhere either for a quick drive around town or going on a road trip, has always been an extremely reliable car everywhere we went! We shared many memorable moments with it & I will hate to see it go, but I have another project called a 1970 RWB Rebel Machine on the go & some hard choices have to be made which is why I'm putting this terrific car up for sale. I'm doing my best to give you an accurate description of this vehicle, here is a list of cosmetic & minor blemishes which are explained below; Has a 35 year old paint job, with it comes 35 years of blemishes, chips, small dings. Concourse Judges have always told me NOT to repaint this car, they all claim that it adds to its "originality" It's not a restored car, nor is it a rotisserie restoration, it is simply a very well kept piece of history, apart from the 2nd owner detailing the undercarriage while the engine was being rebuilt, transmission & differential were removed including all suspension components All trim is in very good condition, front & rear bumpers have been re-chromed. The "L" front fender moldings need to be re-chromed, door handles have some minor pittingThe front grille has some minor cracks & you would have to know where to find them there that smallAll glass is in very good condition apart from some minor scratches in the drivers side glass, part of wear & tear being 38 years oldInterior grab handle is cracked, have purchased a very good replacement handle in the same tan color, I will replace itUnder the left rear back-up light lens is a small finger nail sized bubble coming trough the rear panel. It's been there since I purchased the car in 2002 & has never changed. Have new tail light/back-up light seals in case I decided to repair it, these come with the car This car is being advertised locally as well, therefore I reserve my right to end this auction early & at anytime. Shipping is the buyers responsibility, please keep in mind room for the spare parts, front & rear bumpers, dash pad, grille, 2 tail pipes are the larger pieces to think about. The winning bid includes these spare parts & documents, however, if you decide NOT to take these parts I will "adjust" my price but not by much, they simply take up too much storage space in my garage. I will not disclose my reserve price suffice it to say that in a very recent auction for a black '72 Javelin which was NOT sold, the last bidder in that auction would have been very close to winning this "all original 401 equipped" '73 Javelin. The winning bidder must provide 10% down payment of the winning bid whether through PayPal or cleared certified/bank draft 7 days after the end of the auction. The balance must be paid in full either in cash, certified/bank draft which must be cleared by my bank BEFORE the release of this vehicle to the new owner. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me BEFORE bidding. The car can be taken out of storage anytime at the request of the winning bidder once ALL funds have cleared when this car is paid in full, no exceptions, I'm sorry, just too many window shoppers! On 16-Feb-11 at 08:39:20 EST, seller added the following information: Hello, up for auction is an extremely clean un-restored car that has retained all of it's original sheetmetal & power train components. I couldn't change any photos once my listing was posted so, if you would like to see larger photos including some that are not on my listing PLEASE send me a message. Thank you.
