Vehicle Detail

Here's a car I had sold to a buyer who, for his own reasons, could not complete the transaction and I have decided to re-list: Up for auction is a beautifully preserved 1962 Volkswagen Beetle spending most of its life in heated storage. It has been extremely well cared for and it shows. The odometer reads 4,134 original miles and its either true or its 104,134 I can't tell. The VW features only one re-spray with two tone body color. It also sports the original interior minus a carpet kit, with the map pocket in the door panel that looks like it has never been used, the WORKING ORIGINAL RADIO, and ORIGINAL GLOVE BOX!!! The BEETLE’S under side shows very nicely with no signs of previous repair and no rust; not even under the 6v battery. The Volkswagens engine and transmission perform superbly. The previous owner installed rare clip-less Porsche 356 style wheels. As with most 50 year old vehicles that have not been fully restored and are in mostly original condition, there are some small imperfections here and there. Overall this VW is in fantastic original condition. The story on this car is GREAT as well. I found it in a building among several other vintage VW's owned by a father/son that sold me the car. It seemed the father had a habit of taking these cars apart and doing stuff like rattle-can paint-jobs and shade tree repairs. Selling me the car, was in a way, rescuing it from such things. They told me the car had been registered for only eleven years from 1962-1973 and it came to me with a 1973 tagged plate. I was told it had been in storage from then until now interrupted only by change of ownership from Matthews Memory Lane motors(a reputable classic car dealer) to them. Included with the sale was/is a plate with 1973 tags and documentation from Matthews stating the car had been stored inside and it has a later motor, tires, and wheels, and that it drives excellent. This is consistent with what I have experienced in owning the car. I've only driven the car a handful of times but after replacing the rubber brake lines and adjusting the brakes it is an excellent runner and the original heater even works. It drives straight and stops predictably with no pulls, shimmies, or shakes. Its a real sweet-heart to drive. Downshifting into second can be a little stiff but that's the only drivability issue I have noticed and it is minor. As of now its just sitting in my shop taking up space. I had planned to give it to my girlfriend but we've since acquired a 1964 Volvo 122 that she wants more, so I'm free to clear some shop space. I will have more quality pictures up soon. This is a no reserve auction and as always seller does reserve the right to end auction early. I will assist in shipping anywhere in the world to the successful high bidder. Thanks and have a great day! Please enjoy the photos we have provided below. As well as some “ Volkswagen Beetle Fun Facts” I have posted for your enjoyment. Volkswagen Beetle Fun Facts The Volkswagen Type 1, more commonly known as the Beetle, is an economy car produced by the German automaker Volkswagen from 1938 until present. Although the names "Beetle" and "Bug" were quickly adopted by the public, it was not until August of 1967 that VW themselves began using the name Beetle in marketing materials. It had previously been known only as either the "Type I" or as the 1200 (twelve-hundred), 1300 (thirteen-hundred) or 1500 (fifteen-hundred), which had been the names under which the vehicle was marketed in Europe prior to 1967; the numbers denoted the vehicle's engine size in cubic centimeters. In 1998, many years after the original model had been dropped from the lineup in most of the world (it continued in Mexico and a handful of other countries until 2003) VW introduced the "New Beetle" (built on a Volkswagen Golf platform), bearing a cosmetic resemblance to the original. The Volkswagen Beetle was the first car to sell over a million units in a single year. HERBIE, the "car with feelings" in the 1968 movie "The Love Bug", was a 1963 ragtop Volkswagen Beetle. . >- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle
