Vehicle Detail

For auction without reserve is a very solid 1960 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door post project car, very original with a 232 c.i. 6-cylinder engine, 3-speed manual transmission and 9" open differential. It is an original California black-plate car originally sold through Town and Country Ford in Reseda, a 2-owner car that passed from the original owner to his son who took it apart to restore it; marriage and family gave him other priorities and the car went to lien-sale in 2000, after which I acquired it. The car was last registered in 1991. I have several prior registration cards to verify that the black plates belong to the car. There are extra parts that come with the car. The car had been stripped of trim and most of the original paint before I purchased it. I cleaned the body and coated it in a quality rust-proofing black industrial enamel, then more recently applied a light coat of Rustoleum low-gloss black enamel, while the roof was protected with a red-oxide version of the same primer I used on the body. What I did was for sheetmetal protection rather than appearance, but it is actually close to presentable for what it is. Minor bodywork over dents and scrapes had been started, I roughed that out enough to prime the car, nothing more. There are still dents and dings to be dealt with. There is no rust in the body and fenders. There is surface rust on the trunk floor and front footwells which I cleaned and primed, again for protection. There are very small rust-throughs in the trunk floor and one small rust-through in the passenger-side front footwell (see detail photos). The trunk floor and front footwells are solid and usable. The fenders were missing when I purchased the car; I found a really nice rust-free set on a high-desert parts car and installed them. All the trim that was removed from the car comes with it, a couple pieces need minor straightening, most is in good condition. Hood, doors and trunk have good hinges, open/close well. Some basic body alignment is needed. All glass is good except for the driver's-side quarter (broken from the inside) and the passenger door (a minor heat-crack). Windows roll up/down ok. All electrical is unmolested and appears in good condition though I have spent no time with it. Bumpers are straight with faded chrome. Window trim is overall in good condition with no evidence of rust underneath. The grille is nice, and there is an extra grille that comes with the car. The car does need a complete interior. The seat frames are good overall, the passenger front needs a little work but is usable. I took many more photos of the car than I can post to the auction which can be viewed at the following Photobucket link: http://s881.photobucket.com/albums/ac13/carsinmotion/1960%20Fairlane%20500/ Mechanically the Fairlane is pretty much original and as I found it. I have cleaned the fuel tank and lines; rebuilt the (4-wheel manual drum) brake system; flushed the cooling system; changed the engine oil and filter; serviced the transmission and differential; lubed the front suspension; installed a new set of points and a ballast resistor; installed a new (aftermarket) ignition switch (original pieces come with the car) and installed a near-new set of Pirelli tires on a set of 15" x 6" rims (original wheels and dog-dish hubcaps come with the car). The engine starts from the key, and the car does drive (I have driven it a few local miles), though without a few more basics I would not drive it any distance as the car was off the road for 20 years. But it would not require much effort or expenditure to have this Ford roadworthy. The paperwork I have on this car are California Lien Sale papers. If an out-of-state or international buyer requires a California title I can provide a California title-only for export at my cost (usually less than $100.00 inclusive of all all fees). I have described the Fairlane as I know it. Please ask any relevant questions prior to bidding. The car is sold as-is, with no warranty express or implied. Taking possesssion of the car is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder, but I will help in any way reasonable. I have access to in-state/interstate transporters and international shippers. Winning bidder is to contact me within 24 hours of close of auction to make arrangements for payment and taking possession of the car. Payment is to be received in full within 5 business days of close of auction, with possible exception for an overseas buyer. Bidders with excessive negative feedback will be cancelled. If zero bidder, please contact me before bidding. The Fairlane is advertised locally and I reserve the right to end the auction if it sells off e-bay. Thank you for looking at this auction.
