This is one of the best driving pagodas I have ever driven. The performance is terrific, engine pick-up clean, the automatic transmission is the smoothest I have experienced. Braking is positive without any pulsing. The restoration of the car was performed in 1988 with the mileage at that time 92,000. A sheath of invoices accompany the car attesting to the body and mechanical work performed at this time. The interior, which is simply stunning, was specially finished in Mercedes Leather, covering the complete interior. The wood was also replaced at this time. To show the extent of the owners desire to achieve perfection, the clock was sent out to a specialist to have the mechanism converted to quartz. An incredible stereo system was custom installed. Those of you familiar with McIntosh will understand the quality of this unit (MX406) The sound it delivers would not be out of place in your living room. At the same time a Clifford security system was installed. The cost of these upgrades was $5,400 (invoices available) The car is resplendent in White with a Beige leather interior. The soft top is in Brown. It has sat unused for a long time and when recently raised, the rear window detached, it also has a couple of small splits. For the last year, the car has been garaged at an oceanfront property here in Palm Beach. As a consequence, there is some evidence of surface rusting on the underside of the car. The hardtop has a small rust stain where the chrome runner meets the top of the windshield. The paintwork has a brilliant shine, under fluorescent lighting some imperfections can be seen that are not visible in daylight. The air conditioning was refurbished during restoration but is now blowing warm air and may need a recharge. The previous owner, a lady friend of mine, has loved and enjoyed the car for the past 8 years. She bought it from a friend of hers, a Mercedes enthusiast in L.A. who performed the restoration in 1998. I understand that the car has lived in California, Arizona and Palm Beach, Florida. We have decided we cannot keep the car as we have no more garaging available and it would be heartbreaking for this beautiful car to deteriorate. Over the years I have owned many Mercedes, this is certainly one of the most beautiful and best driving. In summary, this is a wonderful car that turns heads everywhere it goes. The interior is fantastic, the stereo audiophile quality and the driving qualities super impressive. The new owner may wish to attend to the soft top, air conditioning and the corrosion.
