It's a true dualsport. Some dualsports lean more toward dirt and others more toward street. This is a true 50/50 dualsport; the perfect balance. It's a rock solid dirt bike with genuine dirt bike suspension, but it's also a first rate middle weight street bike. No other dualsport can claim this. The KLR650 is a lame street bike that looks like a big dirt bike; I traded it for an XR650L. The DRZ400 is an OK dirt bike; period. The DR650SE comes close to an XR650L, but lacks the overall quality of a Honda and doesn't have as good of a suspension. The XR650L suspension is awesome; a first rate suspension. The suspension changed as of 2002, so get a 2002 or later XR650L so you get the much improved suspension. The range is not great; about 90 miles per tank full. If you want a true dualsport, get an XR650L. For those who refuse to stop at the pavement's end, the venerable electric-start XR650L can extend your motorcycle adventure to roads less traveled--be they dirt roads, trails or forgotten byways--in proven dual-sport style. Dual-sport, dual-purpose — no matter what you call it, the XR650L puts the fun in functional. Sure, the headlight and turn signals make this bike street-legal, but at the heart of this machine lies Baja 1000-winning tech that just begs to be taken off-road too. Add an electric starter and you're looking at a potent 650cc four-stroke as ready for the dirt as it is for the daily commute. Happy to get dirty, but fully street ready with standard lights, mirrors and turn signals. That’s the Honda XR650L: a true two-wheel all-terrain vehicle. Its 644 cc RFVC four-stroke engine has the low-end torque to pull you out of a deep mud hole, and the horsepower to cruise effortlessly on the highway when your trail ride is over. Aggressive dual-sport tires grip hard on dirt, gravel or pavement, and the fully adjustable Showa suspension makes small work of big rocks or deep potholes. A bike that’s this much fun gets ridden a lot, so we also made sure it’s comfortable for long hours in the saddle. For adventure both on and off the pavement, the durable, powerful, electric-start XR650L has earned a reputation as the premier dual-sport ride.
