Vehicle Detail

Very solid 1973 Porsche 911T non-sunroof coupe with a 1971 2.2 liter E engine and matching 901 transmission. Relatively low reserve considering what comparable 911s have recently sold for on eBay. I purchased this 911 from a Porsche collector that is the principal of a road racing team and Porsche specialty shop. He sold it to me after deciding to "thin the heard a bit" as his schedule didn't allow him to spend enough time with all of his vehicles. After spending nearly a year and a half enjoying the car and making additional improvements, we've decided to start a family and I just don't drive it enough to justify holding on to it. The original 2.4 liter T engine was replaced many years ago with a complete 2.2 liter E engine and matching 901 transmission, with all MFI equipment intact. This can be considered an upgrade, as the 1971 E engine (114 kW; 153 hp) is more powerful than the 1973 T engine (104 kW; 140 hp), accelerates more quickly, and is generally easier to service. The odometer reads 40,964 miles, but given the age of the vehicle and the engine swap, I can't say for certain whether that's the true number of miles on the chassis. But I can say that the engine is strong and the car appears to be rust free with a very solid body. Its original color was Sepia Brown, but was changed to Guards Red during a repaint some time ago. It's clear that a lot of time was spent on this paint change, and the paint still has a good shine after more than 10 years. Overall, this 911 drives straight and true, with good brakes, clutch, transmission and engine performance. The body looks straight with good gaps and panel fitment. The interior is almost entirely original, with the exception of a new steering wheel (original steering wheel also included in sale), new Rennshift system (original shifter for the 901 transmission also included in sale) and stereo, with all items intact. All Fuchs wheels are in good condition, including the full-size spare. Bright work is very good all around. While the it's certainly not in concours condition at this point, I have spent time with two local Porsche specialists (John Walker and Squire Tomasie) to sort this vehicle out. Improvements I've made in the past year and a half include (among others): - New Optima gel battery - New alternator - Four new Bilstein HD shocks - Replaced spring plates and bushings - Replaced rear sway bar - Leveled and aligned at Tru-Line in Seattle - Four new Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position tires (less than 100 miles ago, not shown in pictures) - New Rennshift performance shifter, shift rod bushing and precision shift coupler (not shown in pictures) - New master cylinder - New throwout bearing - New bell crank on transaxle and pedal cluster - Added toggle switch for improved cold starting As I mentioned, this is a very solid vehicle overall. At this point, the car is where I want it to be mechanically, and it's mainly cosmetic issues that you'd expect in a 911 of this age and may want to address (dash has the normal cracks, carpet and headliner are tired, seats are intact but not as supportive as they used to be, seatbelts don't retract as crisply as they used to, paint has minor chips and some bubbles in the bumper corners likely due to improper prep work during repaint (see pictures), passenger key cylinder works intermittently, some window seals will need to be replaced in time due to aging, clock works intermittently). In addition, the Rennshift system has recently been installed but you may want to tweak it to your tastes (or reinstall the 901 shifter if it suits you) and the carbon canister system is included but needs to be hooked up. If I were to hold on to this vehicle, I'd simply refresh the interior and be extremely satisfied, but it's a very nice driver as it is. It can be driven as is for years to come, further restored as you drive, or completely restored for a show winner. Serious bidders only. Winning bidder to send $500 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of auction end. Balance due via certified bank check or wire transfer within 1 week of auction end. Buyer responsible for shipping, but I will help coordinate pick-up. Vehicle will only be released to buyer and/or shipping company when funds clear. Vehicle is being sold “as is” with no warranty. I’ve tried to provide an honest assessment of this vehicle, but please feel free to contact me at 202-669-9436 for additional information and/or pictures. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the vehicle is also being listed locally. On Dec-31-10 at 12:36:42 PST, seller added the following information: Correction: The engine is a 1970 2.2 liter E engine (engine # 6201011) with a 901 transmission, not a 1971 2.2 liter E engine. The specs for the 1970 E engines are the same as those for the 1971 E engine. Apologize for the confusion.
