Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a fully restored 1966 Pontiac GTO. The car is a real GTO and has been documented through PHS. The car was taken down to the bare frame and re-built from the ground up. Great pains were taken to replace the original parts with the exact same part with the correct markings and paint. This car is very, very close to the way it came off the assembly line in the 4th week on January, 1966. The re-build was documented with pictures. I also have a folder of receipts about 2 inchs thick. After the car was dis-assembled, the frame was sent out to be media blasted and re-painted with 3 coats of black epoxy paint. The gas tank and sending unit were replaced. Both the gas line and the brake lines were replaced with stainless steel lines. The rubber brake lines and the emergency brake cable were replaced. All the brake shoes and parts were replaced. The brake hubs were turned down and repainted the correct colors. Black paint for the rear hubs and red paint for the front hubs. All the body mountings and steering bushings were replaced with polyurethane bushings. The entire front end and steering was re-built with new parts. The shocks and springs were replaced. The rear end was re-built as a true positraction with 373 gears. Undercoating was applied to help keep down the heat and noise inside the car. The only rust on the body was in the area behind the rear window. After the rust issue was resolved, the body was sent out for paint. All the chrome and stainless steel trim was sent out to be re-finished. The front windshield was replaced. The entire interior was replaced with the correct interior including the headliner. Sound deadener and heat shields were placed under the new carpet. The seats have new cushions. The dashboard was re-padded. The original gauges and warning lights were replaced with a correct Rally Dash with a tach. The heater core, heater switch, heater control cables and blower motor were replaced. The headlight and wiper switches were replaced. All the arm rests and all the power window switches were replaced. The truck was redone and coated in white and grey spatter paint. All the rubber seals were replaced. The engine and trasmission had been changed out before I got the car. The engine was replaced with a correct YC 389 engine rebuilt to factory GTO specs. The heads are correct 93 castings rebuilt to factory specs. The 3X2 carbs have been rebuilt and installed using correct plumbing, brackets, linkage and springs. The air breathers are correct with correct foam inserts. The exhaust manifolds are correct and the pipes are 2 1/2 inch stainless steel. The chrome exhaust tips are correct. The starter, alternater, power steering pump, windshield washer pump and water pump are all new. The power brake booster was replaced with a Moraine booster with the correct markings. The spark plug wires have the correct markings. The engine was built using ARP bolts and fasteners. The hood hinges and springs were replaced using the correct bolts. Even the heater hoses have the correct markings. The transmission is a Muncie close ratio 4-speed with a new Hurst shifter. The only flaw on the car is some minor flaws in the paint that occurred in the built and 1 paint chip that I caused by hitting the driver's door aginst the garage wall. I got an estimate of $1,650.00 to repair the paint and make it show quality. The items not finished are re-furbishing the seat belts and converting the ignition from points to electronic. I have the kit to convert the points. The electronic kit and the seat beltsgo with the car. I also kept a lot of the parts taken off the car and they go with the car. This is an original car that has been restored back to the way in came from the factory. It does have the minor paint flaws that can be easily corrected. The car is priced accordingly.
