V8 Astro Van - Built 350 Chevy, Posi, 700R4, Custom Paint, Custom Interior, Low miles on van, 6000 miles on new motor - priced very reasonably 1985 Chevy Astro Cargo Panel Van - low mileage, short body, lightweight panel van - Stealth V8 conversion kit with a recently built up Chevy Smallblock with an Overdrive Automatic Transmission. Very well sorted out conversion - runs excellent and gets very good fuel economy for how fast it is. Qualifies for Missouri Historic Vehicle license plates so you don't have to worry about emissions or inspections if it stays in this state! Former Good Guys Car Club Member's van - Has a Good Guys Rod & Custom Association Membership sticker in the window Over 36 pictures included and a detailed description of the van on this page xxxx The body looks to be a survivor with no rust or body damage - there are 59,000 miles showing on the van and about 6000 on the engine - It is probably 159K, but it sure doesn't look like it Look at the images that show up under the truck - the gas tank is clean and shiny and the underside of the truck is uniform and not rusted. The bumpers are painted to match the body - looks very sharp. Rear doors have the only glass in the back and it is factory privacy tint - no side glass - panel delivery style! This is currently not a perfect show truck, but easily could be with very little work. It is a lightly used vehicle that presents itself very nicely, but it is not perfect. I can go over everything I know about the van from my discoveries and from what was told by the original builder, who is a well known street rod personality in St. Louis, on the phone with an interested buyer. xxxx Paint is Cadillac White Diamond Pearl White Tricoat with Urethane Clear that is a newer paint job and is a very decent pro spray job - It has about the same quality and texture finish as my 2009 GMC van. Very smooth top surface with a very good shine and depth to the color - the top row 3rd picture is a very good representation of the color. It has a rear GTO Judge style wing that we have had on and off and it looks good both ways - I will post pics of both. It also has a small front air dam. Wheels are Cragar SS, tires are big BF Goodrich Radial TAs with the raised white letters mounted to the inside. Tires are older date coded, but they have never lost any pressure at all this year. I only mention this if a person is considering driving it home a long distance and also to indicate the van was driven decently enough to keep tread on the tires for a long while! xxxx Picture to the right shows van without the rear wing. xxxx It is currently installedxxxx xxxx Interior is VERY nice with a clean dash and panels - it looks as good as the exterior! Steering wheel is a Grant Racing 3 spoke leather wheel. The rear walls and headliner are custom upholstered with gray European automotive carpet. There is mahogany stained wood rear trim on the headliner junctions and the rear lights are crown molding location units stained mahogany. Front dome lights are aircraft style brushed aluminum units. Rear floor is rubber cargo flooring over a generic silver Dynamat sound and heat insulation. Front floor and doorwells is black vinyl cargo van trim. Seats are gray buckets. Stock stereo - nothing special, but it works. We have extra interior parts that go with the vehicle that are not installed including rear pedestal bucket seat mounts and custom wood trim items Interior pictures do not show the passenger side seat belt and fabric wrap on the door pillar - All of those items are installed at this time with the same quality wrap as the drivers door, sliding door and rear doors. The A pillar trim which is crinkle finish like the door panels is also installed. The door panels and some interior panels appear "sparkly" in the digital images, but they are a matte black crinkle finish and look great in person. Also the lower door panels have the gray Euro carpet fillers installed below the arm rests since the photos. If I have time I will update the images xxxx This van is an excellent street rod and is very fast, will lay rubber after it is moving and get away from you if you are not careful - it runs pretty good. It handles very well, stops good and steers tight. It has been turn key reliable for us the entire time we have been driving it. I It is a blast to drive - it takes off and pins you in the seat and will knock the tires loose even after you are rolling about 15 mph. We have only put a basic tune on it and have not gotten near its full potential. With that considered it still gets good gas mileage too - Seemingly better than many stock V6 ones! It is a very light vehicle. Gtech had the van at high 13s to low 14s in the quarter, but a shift kit or trans reprogramming and bigger rear tires will surely help drop some off that time Transmission is a 700R4 4 speed automatic overdrive with stock programming and a Trans Go TV Cable geometry kit. It upshifts fine and on time and locks up good. The rear axle seems to be a limited slip of some type with around 3.00:1 gearing. The vehicle spins both tires evenly all the time in a straight line, but the wheels freewheel easily for turns and when on jacks so it is not a full locker. I have another GM van with this same type rear axle that I bought new from GM and ordered it with a Posi and it came with the same type posi unit. Rear suspension has composite leaf springs with new hard brake lines and brake hoses, new shoes and brake hardware, and the front suspension is low mileage stock with brand new brake calipers. xxxx The engine is a recently rebuilt 350 4 bolt main 3970010 high nickle block and heads that was sourced from an early 70s Corvette. In the first picture of the engine you can see the "Left-facing right triangle" on the cylinder head which identifies the heads as 69-70 350/300HP high performance 041 heads (reference "http://www.fastnuf.com/Headguide.html" see key G - "041 heads") It has been built with performance internals, pistons, bearings, oil pump, etc., performance street cam, Edelbrock Aluminum Intake &, Carb, brand new Long Tube Headers, new dual exhaust out the back, new Hypertech ignition coil, module and wires, brand new Holley Racing Electric Fuel Pump, Chrome Valve Covers and Air Cleaner, Air Conditioning was retained and has pressure, but has no belt on the compressor at this time, High Amp Alternator, brand new battery and more. The oil stays clean and clear after hundreds of miles of driving - original owner who built the van says the engine can't have more than 6000 miles on it. The engine starts right up and idles fine in neutral and in gear with a slight lope from the cam, but still has plenty of vacuum for the power brakes, sounds great out the exhaust pipes, has good throttle response and the power comes on strong. All of the dipsticks and oil fills are at the front of the engine in the correct locations - not very common in this type of engine swap - all of the accessory drives are done properly xxxx Here is a list of just some of the brand new parts: Engine recently completely rebuilt with performance internal parts, Headers, Exhaust, Ignition, Edelbrock Carb Rebuilt, Holley Fuel Pump, Battery, Paint, Clearcoat, Weather Stripping, Interior Wall Panels and Upholstery, Brakes - Calipers, Steel Brake Lines, Brake Hoses, Brake Shoes, Brake Hardware, HVAC Blower Motor, Leather Steering Wheel, and many more new parts. Well over asking price in just a few of these parts.......many, many thousands spent on this vehicle - almost $2 Grand invested in just the last few weeks readying it for sale. I can go over everything that was done to this vehicle on the phone including quickly covering the very few minor annoyances which every performance or custom vehicle has - it is a very short list on this one. This is a pretty well sorted out project at this point. Would be perfect for a stereo guy - tons of room for speakers!
