Vehicle Detail

Are you looking for an original, untouched piece of Volkswagen history? This Beetle is the one for those who understand and appreciate the differences between an original, untouched collectible and a “restored” car. This Sunroof Beetle is as original as they come, and is the one to study for true, unparalleled originality. It will proudly take its place in any collection. My grandfather purchased this Beetle new from Autohaus Jacob Fleischhauer, a German Volkswagen dealer, upon his retirement from the military. It was special ordered for the US market and built in January 1962. He picked it up in that spring and had it shipped home to his local Volkswagen dealer, Cotton Goff in Buena Park, California. He maintained his Beetle meticulously, and it shows in every detail just how original, untouched and unrestored this Sunroof truly is. The pictures tell the story of this one owner Volkswagen. The color L 390 Golfblau – Gulf Blue, is the original color and indicated by the sticker behind the spare tire, below the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The Beetle has been garaged every night of its life and the 48 year old paint still glistens. Numbers matching body, pan and engine: all produced in January of 1962. Fenders, bumpers, aprons, running boards, decklid, hood, pan, engine, transaxle, wheels including spare, jack, window and body rubber, all trim, every piece of glass including the windshield, seats, door panels, antenna, mirrors, lights, VW logo muffler, wiring, wiring cover, fuse block/box, speedometer and cable, radio etc. etc. is all original to the car. There is zero rust on this VW. Zero. The floors, rails and pan are outstanding. Cotton Goff applied undercoating to the Beetle in 1962 and it remains intact to this day. Upon retirement from the military, Pan Am hired my grandfather, which is where the seat belts came from. They have been on the car since the mid-60s. Wiring is 100% original with the exception of the newer speaker that was installed in the ‘70s. The wiring cover inside the trunk area is the original cover. Mechanically this Beetle is more than just a phenomenal survivor: it is a strong runner. Only 165k miles in 48 years, which is less than 10 miles per day. The numbers matching 40hp stale air motor is original to this Beetle and has not been rewired or modified in any way. Everything works: engine runs very strong, transaxle shifts smoothly, brakes are good, all lights, horn, and wipers work as they should. I would not hesitate to drive this car across country at any time. I wish we didn’t have to sell my grandfather’s cherished Ragtop, but settling estates is what it is. I have never seen a more original Volkswagen. Included are the three original, numbered Volkswagen keys, Instruction Manual, Just a Few Tips guide, Cotton Goff pouch, and the engraved cigarette case given to my grandfather as a gift in 1962 by the German dealer, Autohaus Jacob Fleischhauer. International sales welcome, as are pre-purchase inspections. Clear California title in hand. Very low Reserve. Bid to win.
