Vehicle Detail

1978 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM: Outstanding Pontiac 400 motor. Has a HJ stamped on the front of the engine block. Has a higher compression ratio compared to the actual 1978 400. Has a lot of get up and go and idles very nice. Installed new plugs and wires. Properly gapped. Smooth shifting auto transmission. Black exterior hard top AND a tan interior. Interior parts should be replaced. Dash is solid but has been capped. Front and rear seat buns are good and seats have new covers. Passenger side floor pan has a nice size rust hole. (see pics) I have two full length floor pans that have not been installed yet. I bought them from Classic Industries. They will come with the car including a nice solid set of GM R/L seat tracks. All gauges work and have no electrical issues that I am aware of. Head lights, tail lights and running lights all work well. Has floor button high beam headlight switch and electric trunk release. Rear frame rails are in very good rust free condition. Frame seems to be good and straight. I did a magnet check concerning the usual rust areas on the body panels. I found no suspect areas. The magnet stuck well to each body area I checked. Drivers side radiator support bracket is rusted through and will need to be replaced but rest is very solid. Sway bar and leaf springs are sound. There is a little play in the front steering wheel. Ball joints and tie rod ends are probably factory originals and will need to be replaced. Springs, shocks an shock towers are in good drivers condition. Brakes are responsive but there is a slight leak in the front brake line. Radiator is in good condition. Both doors have the typical sag and will need new pins. I bought this car out of Georgia. Was planning on doing a total frame off restoration (started on interior) but plans changed. My wife and I bought an old Victorian home and it takes my time AND money! This is a very do-able solid car. I am not out to make money on this car. The snow is ready to fly, I have no garage and I want to get it into the right hands who can do this car proper TLC. With some time, effort and money it would look factory new and a great investment. Has a clear Iowa title. If your just a dreamer, a BS'er or someone who is looking to get something for nothing please do not waste your time or mine. I am also NOT interested in some sort of trade. If you are a serious buyer who has the money please email me. If you prefer to call me you may reach me at 319-601-1455 and ask for Matt. If you BUY IT NOW: as a Christmas bonus, the car will come with a original Body by Fisher factory floor manual and a Smokey and the Bandit soundtrack CD! I also have invested in about $2500 in various quality interior/exterior original GM parts to aid in the restoration. They do not come with the car but we can always reach a deal. Thanks for looking and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
