Vehicle Detail

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING PRIOR TO BIDDING. THIS CAR NEEDS COMPLETE RESTORATION! 1966 Galaxie 7 Litre Hardtop / 428 cid/ C-6 Automatic – 100% complete and remarkably, remarkably original. Midnight blue with medium-blue interior. Last on the road in 1990. Stored outdoors for about 10 years, then sat in dry indoor storage since 2000. It is currently NOT road worthy. The Good: Although the car needs COMPLETE RESTORATION, it is a text-book example of an unmodified, unadulterated, unmolested original. The paint you see is most certainly 100% factory original. That includes the hand-applied white pin stripes -- that were standard on all 7 Litre models. I have inspected this car extremely carefully and can attest there is absolutely no evidence it was ever repainted, AT ALL. There is positively no evidence to suggest that any of the body panels are not factory original and there is zero filler, lead, or evidence of ANY REPAIRS. The factory-correct seats and door panels are in above-average condition, with no significant tares or damage. The headliner is seperated at the seams and will need to be replaced and the dash pad is in poor condition. Positively no evidence of any body damage or repairs, ever. All body panels appear to be factory installed. All panel gaps are even and correct. Doors, hood and trunk open and close perfectly. All glass is good. No damage to the windshield. All windows roll up and down correctly. Engine, transmission and rear end are all correct C6-A code items with dates codes ranging between April and June 1966. The final assembly code of the car is July 5, 1966 -- marking it's birthday as one of the last production days of the year at the Mahwah, New Jersey assemble plant. (Ford plants took shut-down and retooling on the second or third week of July. Next-year models were ready to go at the beginning of August). As an example, the date code on the carburator is May 25, 1966 -- and the carb tag number is positively correct for a 1966 Galaxie 428 engine. The math works to support an argument that this is the factory-installed carb. Exhaust manifold, intake manifold and head date codes are all June 1966. The block should be date coded, but it was apparently a bad day at the foundry, and the cast-in date code (above fuel pump mounting boss) is positively illegible. Where there should be numbers, there is an illegible jumble. The car will start, idle, and move under its own power. It does not have service brakes but does have an emergency brake. It is capable of being driven onto a trailer -- but not much more. The cooling system is tight and holds liquid properly. Gas tank is solid and holds fuel, but will need to be cleaned and sealed. The car is currently running on fuel from a one-gallon can under the hood. The Bad: The frame is completely shot. Completely and totally. Don't doubt me! I want to sell this car, but I don't want to blow any sunshine at you. The frame is done. It is completely unreasonable to beleive you can repair it. Far too many rust through locations. Cabin floors and trunk floors are surprisingly good when compared to the frame. Certainly not perfect, but no serious holes. They are very salvageable. Some rust through in the rear quarters -- they can be salvaged. Heavy rust in the bottom of the doors. Doors could be repaired; however, if this was my restoration project, I'd replace the doors. All chrome will need to be replaced or repaired. There are no breaks to the cast grille; however there is notable pitting. Bumpers are straight; however, chrome is in poor condition. Fender emblems are fair; grille emblem is good; trunk spear has no breaks but is noticable pitted. Brake lines are rusted out and the service brake system will not hold fluid. Correct Bendix power booster and four-piston front disk brakes are in place, but all will need to be rebuilt. Exhaust system is not salvageable. Right-hand exhaust manifold is badly cracked and will need to be replaced. Tires hold air but are in poor condition. NOTE: The white wall tires shown in the photo are not currently on the car. It will obviously be sold with four usable tires. I'm describing this car as honestly and completely as possible. I'd be pleased to answer additional reasonable questions -- or supply any additional photos, upon request. I have a clean, clear Pennsylvania title in hand. I'm a motivated seller and am looking for a responsible, motivated buyer. If you are looking at these pictures and thinking how some bondo and a Maaco point job and a tune up are going to net you the hottest Ford on the block for summer 2011 cruise nights -- you are dilutional. Go away quickly and do not bid! Understand the good and the bad I have explained. Before you place your bid consider CAREFULLY: do I have the money to buy this and the time and MEANS to pick it up. You will need a trailer to get this vehical home! Think before you bid!!! I'll go out of my way to help complete this transaction with you as long as you have this purchase thought through, in advance of the last minute of the auction. If you don't we will both very likely end up annoyed. Terms: A very reasonable $250 due in my Paypal account within 48-hours of the end of the auction. If you can't make a very reasonable down payment within 48 hours, I'm going to very quickly doubt your interest. CASH payment in full due -- and the car out of my garage -- within an extremely reasonable 30 days following the end of the auction. The car will remain in indoor dry storage until you pick it up. If you are able to pick this car up within two days of the end of the auction, I will be very inclined to knock a few dollars off the final purchase price.
