Vehicle Detail

A stunning, rare, and collectible-quality 1981 500SLC 5.0 AMG with only 72K original miles. Only ~100 of these cars were brought into the USA, as it was a Euopean-only model with less than 2000 ever built. Of those, how many survived and are still in service? Not many. Of those remaining in-service cars, how many are in excellent original cosmetic and mechanical shape? Fewer still. Of those, how many have well under 100K original miles. A handful at most. And of that handful, how many have a correct R107 AMG full aero body kit, monochromatic ‘whiteout” paint, AMG steering wheel, and period-correct AMG 'Penta' 16” wheels in body color??? Only one, and you are looking at it!!! This is a one-of-a-kind car, and it’s as nice as the photos suggest. It is unrestored and original, with the patina that shows it to be a loved, highly maintained, and excellent original car. It runs SO strong, it looks SO great, and it’s in SUCH great shape cosmetically and mechanically. Not perfect, not restored, but original and ‘all-there’. I have bought, driven, and sold over 200 1991 and older Mercedes cars in the last 5 years, and this one is just fantastic. Read on to find out more. PLEASE NOTE: ebay does not accept euro VIN#s, so the actual VIN# of this car is WDB10702612002096. -- Here she is in all her glory -- Yes, this car is expensive. But if you are looking for an excellent collectible Benz, the rare 500SLC 5.0 is a good place to start. With the strong M117 block engine and aluminum body panels, this car is a runner. And when you add the condition, miles, AMG equipment, and operating condition of this car, the winner of this auction will be the only one in the United States, and perhaps the world, to have one like it. This car is fully sorted, with a recent open-checkbook mechanical inspection. I will do every little thing needed to make sure this car is 110% for the winning bidder, and I can provide literally hundreds of references from buyers that will tell you I do what I say, and deliver what I promise. Here's the deal: -- She's a 1981 500SLC 5.0 V8 in 737 classic white over black leather and matching black carpets, door panels, and dash. She has only 72,xxx original miles, She looks simply amazing with her full AMG body kit, AMG Penta wheels, AMG steering wheel, straight body panels, and monochromatic ‘whiteout’ paint treatment. All 290HP are present and accounted for, and this 500SLC fires instantly and pulls with authority at any speed you choose. This car was loved, and it shows. -- -- Look at the original details, doorjambs, glass, etc on this car; you will likely never see nice original parts. This is without an extensive detailing, which will be done prior to delivery for the winning bidder, including a full engine-bay detail. -- -- Exterior 9 out of 10 (I'm finicky) – Excellent overall condition paint, body, glass, and trim. No dings or dents. She looks amazing, with a nice shine to her 737 classic white paint and trim. Imagine getting an unrestored 29 year old car that looks this good! -- -- The lower side-body moldings are in great shape. Rubber, glass, and trim are all very nice. The whiteout trim is on all pieces including chrome window trim, bumpers, grill, even the wiper blades. -- -- Look at the body panels.....they are nice and straight. -- -- The wheels are 16” AMG Penta period-correct five spokes with spokes painted classic white and polished lips. There is also a set of 16" BBS wheels that can go with the car too. Tires are near-new 225/55/16 and all match. They balance out excellent and look great. -- -- Interior 9 out of 10 – Seats, carpets, headliner are all in astounding amazing original condition. The back seat looks great! No saggy seatbase cushions or worn out faded leather. The door panels, dash, and center console are all very nice with minimal shrinkage. Seat belts are good, the headliner is not faded or droopy, even the leather rear seats, notorious for pulling and shrinking over time, are great! -- -- Check out the awesome AMG steering wheel....a super rare find! -- -- Here is more good stuff. If you know these cars, you know at this age usually the orange instrument cluster needles and markings are faded to dull yellow, the wood trim is cracked and cloudy, there is moisture in the spare tire well, the door jambs are rough and faded, the headlight bezels are cracked/cloudy, etc etc. NONE of those issues are present with this car. The condition of these items, and all the other items like them, is excellent AND original. It will be very hard to find a better condition original unrestored 500SLC anywhere. -- -- The door panels and wood trim are also in great shape, like the rest of the car. -- -- Even the trunk and spare are mint, and the tool roll is in place as is the original unused Euro first-aid kit and warning traingle. The spare tire and both wheel wells are BONE DRY. The spare wheel and tire are original and have never touched the ground! -- -- She has all the nice Euro equipment like bumper and headlights, including a genuine HID bixenon headlight setup. I even put in a set of air horns! -- -- Electrical 9.5 out of 10 – All windows, sunroof, vacuum lock system, lights, sunroof, wipers, defogger, mirror, and other items work properly. The HVAC system is fast to respond, and operates perfectly with hot heat and cold A/C. -- Options include #256 limited-slip differential, #410 electric sunroof, #470 ABS, #581 automatic climate control, #590 heat-insulating glass, #600 headlamp wipers, #682 fire extinguisher, and more. The Blaupunkt radio is new and has CD, and was wired to work properly with the period-correct Blaupunkt ‘stalk’ EQ. -- Mechanical 10 out of 10 - Engine starts, idles, runs, and revs to redline in every gear smooth and STRONG. This 500SLC absolutely flies, and feels more like a catapult than a car, especially at high speeds. Transmission is smooth yet very aggressive, and downshifts eagerly. No abrupt engagement, just fast, firm, progressive shifts. She runs at high speed with no vibrations or noises. There are no leaks. I WILL FULLY DETAIL THE ENGINE BAY PRIOR TO DELIVERY, and it will look 100% better, I promise. All the oxidation from the air cleaner and valve covers will be gone. In fact, it rubs off using only a finger, but I did not want to use a pressure washer on this car for obvious reasons, and that's all I had at the time of the photos. -- -- She has passed THREE inspections with flying colors. A pre-purchase overall inspection, a suspension/brake/wheel/tire/exhaust inspection, and my mechanic has gone over her as well. After a thorough inspection for problems, nothing of significance was found. But some little items were addressed anyway: rear brake pads, windshield and headlight wiper blades, a relay, air and fuel filters, tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, etc), all new fuses, oil/filter change, idler-arm bushings, etc; an impressively small list for a 1981 car!. -- -- Engine is strong and VERY eager to run, transmission smooth and ready to drop down at your command to rocket you past slower traffic. Brakes are solid and pedal feel is firm. Suspension is tight; no worn tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks, or anything else. Steering nicely weighted with no play in the box. No leaks or noises. This car drives and handles like Mercedes intended. -- -- She comes with her books, 2 keys, tools/jack, first-aid kit, recent service listed above, and her service records. Please note that everything on this car is period-correct and original, down to the super-rare and authentic AMG R107 SLC aero body kit. This car was LOVED. -- -- She does not have any trunk leaks common to R107 cars, no rubber rot, no oil leaks, no lukewarm A/C....NOTHING. Everything is in fantastic shape, and at 72K miles, she's not even really broken in yet! If you’ve been waiting for that time-capsule rare 500SLC collector car, it has arrived. -- -- If someone selects the buy-it-now option, I will provide a full $700+ detailing including engine bay, wet-sanding of entire car, carpet steam cleaning, new MB OEM carpeted floor mats, custom-fitted car cover, and more. Drive this fantastic 500SLC AMG with complete peace of mind; it has been thoroughly inspected and serviced. I hate to say you could use it as a daily driver, but honestly, you could, it’s that good! -- -- Nits: While the exterior looks fantastic, and even the bumpers are great, the car does have some light scratches, small touch-up spots, etc from use over her 29 years on the road. This is an original, unrestored 72K mile car, so please be realistic, it’s not a rotisserie restoration. THAT’S IT! There are no other significant cosmetic or mechanical problems whatsoever, and if you know the older R107 chassis cars, you know it’s amazing to find one in this condition. -- -- I have good feedback, and sold many Audis, BMW’s, and Benzes that the new owners are thrilled with. They and others have offered to act as references to verify that I am honest in my descriptions of the cars I sell, and you are welcome to contact them. -- THIS IS A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME CAR, AND IT'S AN UNBELIEVABLE DEAL!! If you have questions, please call Bruce at 856-912-2600 or email me in advance. Winning bidder must send a $2000 deposit via wire transfer or bank/cashier’s check within 48 hours, and pay the balance within five additional days. Car and paperwork are ready to be delivered when funds are clear in my account. Car is sold as-is, where-is, and there are no warranties expressed or implied, exclusive of what ebay may offer to the buyer or what is included at the buy-it-now price. All sales are subject to a $199 documentation fee that includes title paperwork, title FedEx, temp tag, and more. Please have any financing lined up BEFORE you bid. Please check my feedback: I do not play games, and I have sold items on ebay for more than the value of this one. No negative or hidden feedback buyers please, and I reserve the right to verify and/or cancel bids that come from users with poor/low/no feedback ratings. Good luck and happy bidding!
