Vehicle Detail

1930 Buick Series 40 – Model 47 4-Door Suicide Sedan Wheelbase: 118 inches Weight: 3,700 lbs Engine: I-6 257.5-cid 81-hp MSRP List Price: $1,330 Produced: 47,496 You are bidding on a 1930 Buick Series 40 Model 47 4-door sedan, known in its day as a 30/40. This was enticing era for Pre-War Buicks with introduction of the 40, 50 and 60 series. This solid example of 1930 Buick is offered on a NO-Reserve Auction, selling as part of an Estate liquidation, we are being told this vehicle has been in the family for 50 Plus years. It comes to us in the condition shown, mostly restored and ready for completion. Please see my feedback/completed items to see the sale of 1958 Cadillac coming from the same family. This is a numbers matching vehicle with the VIN of 2449572 on the title matching the VIN on the engine block. Additionally it carries a body number of 30009. The vehicle was professionally painted using the upmost time, talent and products available. Estate planners indicate well over $20,000 was spent on the body off, full frame and body restoration of the vehicle. You must see the paint in person to recognize the quality and beauty of it. The wood wheels, an option on the series 40, are fully restored and in like new condition. It is hard if not impossible to find examples of 30’s Buick wheels that show in this condition. On the wheels are mounted new period correct Firestone tires. The interior and glass needs to be completed. Many if not all parts are included in the sale. I have not taken a complete inventory of the parts, nor do I know exactly what is needed to complete. The positive side of the interior is that all original mounting wood in the doors, roof, floor and rear is in solid unmolested condition and will make completion seamless. I have found on-line complete window kits in the range of $600-$800. There is some window glass the previous deceased restorer/owner has installed in the doors. I am told the plate glass which is installed is incorrect and should be replaced with the above mentioned complete kit. The odometer and other dash parts are included and the miles on the odometer indicate 71,763 which I believe to true and accuate. Here is your opportunity to finish the vehicle with the quality and workmanship that was used to during the start of this restoration. This vehicle starts runs and moves. We have not had the opportunity to drive the Buick as the restoration is not complete. We however have learned this, between cylinder number one and two there is crack in the block of approximate 2.5 inches in length. We had the block inspected by two professionals in the field that indicate the crack can be repaired by opinion differing methods, furthermore I have found with minimal searching efforts replacement blocks on-line, however currently this engine block, as stated above is the numbers matching block original to the car. The block number matches the VIN on the Michigan Title. I am by far not a Buick expert or any era of time, especially of 1930’s Buicks. However, I can and will obtain any information and answer any questions you have. Please call Joe anytime toll free at 1-800-644-8815 or email joe@niewiek.com I am here to do what I can to make this deal smooth and trouble free. We are running a no reserve auction, the high bidder will win. Please do not ask for a buy it now price, we intend to run the auction to the end. With that said, we are marketing the car locally on a offer basis, meaning if you are interested in purchasing the car before the end of the auction you can call Joe with an offer at 1-800-644-8815, please be prepared to place an immediate deposit in order for your offer to be seriously considered. Some interesting information I found on the web about 1930 Buicks: For 1930, the Buick Series 40 received a new vertically mounted, thermostatically controlled shutter system. Also, the car was lowered by two inches and given a new body belt line. They had a wheelbase that measured 118 inches and powered by an overhead valve six-cylinder engine producing 80 horsepower. There was a three-speed sliding gear transmission with floor shift controls and a multiple disc clutch. Buick offered three series for 1930, the 40, 50, and the top-of-the-line and most powerful 60 models. Buick introduced the Series 40 in 1930 as a replacement for the Series 116. The Series 40 rode on a 118-inch wheelbase and powered by a 258 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine which produced 80.5 horsepower. Braking was through mechanical drums found on all four corners. The suspension was comprised of semi-elliptic springs and Lovejoy hydraulic shock absorbers. During its first year, there were six bodystyles to select from, including a Sedan, Sport Roadster, Business Coupe and Special Coupe in two-door configuration. A Phaeton and Sedan version were offered with four doors, with the four-door sedan with seating for five being the most popular bodystyle on the Series 40, and had 47,496. Pricing was rather competitive, starting at $1260 and continuing through $1300. I am a Michigan Licensed Dealer and I am required to collect Michigan 6% sales tax to any Michigan resident.
