Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE auction, last bidder wins. This is a beautiful example of a 1981 BMW 528i, the exterior color is Resedagrün Metallic (light metallic green) with a beige corduroy interior. This car always gets compliments from all types, motor-heads, old ladies, soccer moms and of course BMW enthusiasts. This is an E12 chassis, which is the first generation of the 5-series, 1981 was the last year this platform was offered. The car runs and drives well, it has no pending maintenance items that I am aware of. It has been a 3rd vehicle for me over the last couple years, driven around town and to work. I'm selling this vehicle because I have too many cars and need to make space, I don't want to store this one another winter. It's a cool car that I like, but I want to get my money back out of it and apply it to the next project. I have another E12 that is white with a manual transmission (my preference) I'm currently working on. I bought this car in 2007 with a bad head gasket. The head was pressure checked, resurfaced, received a valve job and new valve seals. The car is originally a Canadian market car, hence the metric speedometer (reads in kilometers per hour) and corduroy interior material. I purchased the car from the original owner's son, who sold it because he didn't want to go to the expense of fixing the head gasket. He told me his father bought it new in 1981, then retired to Florida shortly after. As a result, the car has seen very little winter use and has a rust free body. Here's a quick list of some details on the car: 310,000 kilometers (192,000 miles) metric speedo Automatic transmission AC Sunroof - sealed shut Power Windows Power Locks 16” rims, lots of tire tread Bilstein HD shocks New tie rod ends and center link New heater blower motor Rebuilt Cylinder head - ~10,000 miles since rebuild Head resurfaced Valves & seats ground New parts -Valve seals -All gaskets -Alternator belt There is a very minor oil leak, a few drips a day at most, I'm do not know the exact source. It also burns a bit of oil too, which is typical of these cars, check the FirstFives forum for verification if you are not familiar with these cars: http://www.firstfives.org/ I add about a half quart every 3k miles (~5000 kilometers). Larger pics can be viewed here:http://picasaweb.google.com/chris.itterly/1981BMW528i# I'm willing to deliver the car for $0.55 per mile applied to the round trip from the 49009 zip code to the delivery location. Purchase and delivery fees must be in my possession before loading the car for delivery.
