This 1966 R50/2 is a complete mechanical and cosmetic rebuild of an already sound machine. The lower end work was done by Ed Korn, and included new slingers, main and cam bearings and new seals. Top end work was done at Bob's BMW, heads were cleaned, new valves, guides seats and springs installed. Carbs were also rebuilt at Bob's. Cylinders were powder coated, honed and got new rings to complete engine work. Magneto was cleaned, with new points, coil, wires and spark plug caps to complete ignition service. The dynamo is working properly and only got new brushes to match other work. The transmission was in good order, but was still disassembled, cleaned and fitted with new bearings and seals. Final drive had no issues, and was left alone except for cleaning and renewal of fluids. The chassis was fitted with new bearings in swingarms and steering head (tapered). Shocks were fitted with new silent blocks and shock absorber cartridges. With the new suspension and chassis bearing the handling is amazingly light. All body and frame parts were stripped to bare metal and repainted in Alvus Black at the Wark Shop, with correct pin striping applied. Bike was reassembled with high quality stainless fasteners- not always my favorite but a concession to easy care for the next 40 years- ( The hardware is always the first thing to loose its' shine). New chrome rims were laced with stainless spokes to rebuilt hubs. Hub caps are new. Speedometer was rebuilt at Palo Alto Speedometer . All wiring is new. Bike is fitted with new stainless steel axles. The exhaust system is also new, in chrome plated steel as original. A new Denfield solo seat is fitted, along with Magura sport bars. IF YOU MISSED OUT ON BUYING A NEW BMW BACK IN THE 60's, THIS IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET. USED OR DISPLAYED, WITH REASONABLE CARE, THIS BIKE WILL LOOK AND RUN PROPERLY FOR MANY YEARS. NUMBERS MATCH IN ALL THREE LOCATIONS. This bike starts on the first kick if used regularly- After sitting for a week or two it requires one prime kick, then starts on the next. The engine is the quietest I've ever heard. I've ridden the bike 350 miles, doing major service at 25 miles and again at 325, including fluid change, retorquing of cylinders and heads, valve check/ adjustment, and timing check. The bike also comes with an original toolkit, tire patch kit and BMW shop rag( I think this is an original). Bike is sold with a NY transferable Registration. I am in western Connecticut. Pickup by buyer with cash is always best, but I will assist in delivery if need be, at buyer's expense. A non-refundable deposit of $500 from Paypal is required within 24 hours of sale. Balance within 10 days by cash, check or money order. Bike will not be released until all payments are cleared. A few other details. I have been riding and repairing these bikes for most of my life- since 1966. I use NGK spark plug caps for reliability, but will include proper Beru caps in case you want to go to an AMCA meet for judging. I am confident that this bike will get a Senior after the proper sequence of judging. I have not put the metal ties on the brake cable because they eat the paint. If you want to add these that's your business. I think I have some. I ride my bikes, regardless of weather or condition. I am selling this bike because I have another R50, a 1956 that I am rebuilding.
