I am reluctantly offering my unmolested 1984 Rabbit GTI for sale. It has 161,800 miles. Except for a performance exhaust, the car is completely stock. It has a factory sunroof and A/C. I purchased the car in 2006 (after searching over a year for stock GTI in decent shape) from an employee of Niello Volkswagen in Sacramento, who took the car as a trade-in.The car has always been garaged. It has always been serviced and repaired by professional technicians. It has been religiously maintained and pampered. Car runs/drives great and needs nothing. I have never had to add oil. Unmolested Rabbit GTIs in this condition are very rare. All decals/stripes were replaced at this time. Bumpers were stripped and powder coated also. - There are a couple of paint chips that have been touched up. - There is no rust (never had any). - Front windshield and sunroof seal were replaced during repaint. - There are no dings or dents whatsoever. - All black trim is in good shape with very little fading. - Grill is in great shape with stripe repainted with correct shade of red paint. GTI emblem was purchased new off ebay. Red part of rear emblem was repainted so it looks new too. - Undercarriage is clean, but the front section of the floor is dented a little from the car being improperly lifted. Interior - Headliner and visors were reupholstered (with material matching original) in June 2008 - The front seats are in good shape. The boolsters were reupholstered using some rear seat material I purchased in Feb. 2007.The material shows some wear but there are no tears. The rear seat is excellent. - The carpet is also in good shape. The front foot area has some mild staining. The car has custom fit carpeted mats. - The dash has no cracks. - The previous owner was a smoker. The carpet has a couple of cig burns and the front passenger seat has a burn. Thankfully, the smoke smell is long gone. - Because the car was garaged, the interior is less faded than one would expect of a 26 year old car. Also, the car used to have rear window louvers, so rear parcel shelf is in great shape. Electrical - Head lights were replaced/upgraded Dec 2007 with Hella halogen light assemblies (much better than the old dull sealed beams) - AC compressor was replaced in May 2007 (expensive!!) - Everything works as it should except for the radio. On occasion, recently the radio will not tune to radio stations correctly. BTW, the radio lights match the greenish color of the other dashboard lights perfectly. - Coil was replaced about 2 months ago. Mechanical - Master cylinder recently replaced (with new german-made one) - Timing belts, wheel bearings, rear shocks, front strut insets replaced 6 months ago - Techtonics Tuning performance cat and exhaust installed Nov 2009. Wheels/Tires - Original snowflakes are in nice shape with no curb rash. - All 4 Michelin tires show even wear with lots of tread left. I have kept all maint receipts. I also have the original dealer window sticker, showroom brochure, owner’s manual, and Bentley service manual. Included is a custom fit car cover too. I am selling for financial reasons and because my wife tells me I have too many cars. About 1 year ago I was paid $500 to lend the car to a company which digitized it for a video game.
