This VW, with gas mileage approximately 26 miles city and 32 highway, it is good for commuting to work or school. There is NO BODY RUST on this car. The heater works perfectly; however, there is no AC (compressor and condenser were removed). The engine is grimy, and I've not used any solvents to try to clean it. Mechanically there are no major issues keeping the car from being driven every day, if you have the ability to maintain it mechanically. Parts are cheap and in some cases the parts are interchangeable. Repairs I've done (in order more or less) last five years in addition to regular oil changes and spark plug replacement= New muffler Starter, starting interlock relay, fuses Right drive axle Distributor cap and rotor Driver door handle Radiator and hoses Air filter and oil change Left drive axle Spark plug wires Rear drum resurface and pads; front pads Warranty alternator; remove AC Transfer pump (fuel) Service clutch Alternator Included in the sale are the Robert Bently Service Manual for this car, and a quality NAPA (MSRP $30) battery charger, and the installed Yakama rack system (pictured). Known quirks= The ignition has a seat belt interlock switch. This sometimes does not fully engage and is easily resolved by wiggling the catch. Rear hatch won't stay up because pneumatics are worn. The odometer incorrectly reads 778,000. Its actually 178,000. The best proof I can offer is a service receipt showing the mileage at time of service. This was my fault when I removed the instrument cluster. The overall cosmetic condition of the car is fair. Exterior paint shows its age with oxidation and there are several dents. The interior upholstery is in surprisingly good shape for its age (rips, tears, or separated seams). For the past 15 years this VW was driven and registered in CA. I've got a CA title. To ensure a smooth sale, I went to my local DMV, and they reported the title clear for sale. I'm selling the car, because its time for a change. I don't want to work on an 18 year old car anymore. I believe this car has a few good years left for the right person.
