Vehicle Detail
A 1978 CB 400 T1 / Hawk that I have owned for about 2 years. Odometer reads 10894 miles - I believe that these are original miles. I have put about 2K miles on this bike while rehabbing it. I purchased the bike as a project after my wife died to give me something to do. I have put much time and some money into the bike. Has been kept in an unheated garage during the past 2 winters. Selling because I do not have nor can I afford a winter storage space. The money from this sale will be used to partially fund pilgrimage to Baha'i Holy Lands, Haifa, Israel. Things done by prior owner: rebuilt front forks, new spark plugs and wires, oil change & filter Two years ago, I made repairs to: rebuilt the carbs, rebuilt / replaced much of the electrical circuiting, including replacing the headlight bulb, cleaned and adjusted cables, cleaned front brakes This year: had tank and side covers painted by a pro, painted rims of wheel, cleaned rust off of much of the frame - then covered with Navy Jelly, then painted with primer black, new spark plugs, oil change & filter, power-hosed complete bike off removing much of the excess dirt and grease, new ignition and lock set as I lost key What has been fun about ridding this bike: If you have never owned a motorcycle, you are in for a treat as you will now be part of a large fellowship of motorcycle riders. For example: One day I was buying lunch at a deli. I was short of cash and then discovered that I had forgotten my credit card. I was short by about $2.50 which the stranger behind me picked up my tab because he also rode a motorcycle. Further, I have had a number of riders tell me they like the sound of the bike at stoplights. I once went to a "old car rally" where I was invited to exhibit my motorcycle. Then there was the day in Oak Park - I saw a man who appeared to be 50ish walking with a much younger wife. They were going to the BMW Roaster parked behind my motorcycle. He stopped and talked about the first motorcycle that he had owned; it was the same cc's and model as mine. What pure fun! Current condition: I have ridden the bike during ththe week of Oct 9th to the present. Everything works and runs well. I took it for about a 50 mile run on Sunday without a hitch. Oil is clean and full. Choke cable wore out & I have not replaced it. I have not found it necessary to use the choke except the few times that I have ridden it in cooler weather. FYI: I showed my bike to some of my friends that are with the Il. Motorcycle Instruction Group. They recommend new tires. Included but not shown: gas tank cover, oil filter, and other lock mechanisms Cycle is near Harlem or First Avenue exits off of I-55. Call and we can meet up. 630-880-8555. Price: This bike is up for auction without a reserve. I do have it listed locally and may sell before the conclustion of the auction. Asking $1,199 or Best Offer. Price is below what I have into the bike. Preferred meeting times are: any time Friday - Monday, 11:30 - 3:30 Tuesday and Thursday, morning to 3:30 pm on Wednesday. Bike can be seen off hours at Morton Community College, Pershing and Central, Cicero as I work there. You are welcome to test ride at your own risk if you have a MC license. Reason for selling: I do not have nor can I afford a winter storage place.
