Vehicle Detail

1979 Ford Mustang Pace Car Pro Street 429 Powered Starting with a real Pace Car, this Mustang was transformed into the Pro Street car that you see today. The car is totally street legal, but can be taken to the track and perform well. The car was built about 12 years ago by another individual, but has been driven sparingly and held up well over the years. Powered by a 429 big block and backed by a C6 transmission, this little Mustang has great power. The 429 was built with forged pistons, stock cast heads, 292 Competition Cam, Ford Motorsport intake, Mighty Demon 850 carburetor, headers, and has a MSD ignition. A custom aluminum radiator and electric fan cools the car. The C6 has a shift kit and 2500 stall converter installed. The car has obviously been back-halved and has a narrowed nine inch secured with a 4 link suspension, coil over shocks and full tubs. The gears in the rear are 4.10, but when combined with the huge 31 inch Mickey Thompson tires, it is a streetable combination. The front suspension is a Mustang II style with manual rack. The car retains its power brakes and produces enough vacuum to power them. The Mustang rides on Cragar Pro Star Wheels big and littles. The rear tires are Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro 31x18.5x15 and the fronts are regular street radials. The car has a full cage inside and a custom interior with race belts. The interior is in very good condition, but needs a new headliner. The gauges are Autometer and the shifter is a Turbo Action race shifter. There is a 12 gallon fuel cell in the rear and dual batteries with a remote shut-off switch located outside the car. The body and paint is in good condition. The car was painted about 10 years ago, has held up well, and has a nice shine to it. The only issue with the body is in the sunroof area. There is a sunroof drain plug that became plugged at some point and the car has developed some small pops around the sunroof and a fairly decent rust bubble on the roof just above the A pillar (see pic). The rest of the car is very straight and has no other rust issues. The doors open and close solid and the rear hatch open and closes solid. The floors and underside of the car are in very good shape. All of the glass is in great condition. Overall, the car runs, drives and stops great. It doesn’t leak anything and runs cool. The car can be driven and enjoyed as is, however, the car does have a few minor issues that need to be addressed including: Headliner Sunroof seal is old Small rust pops on roof Rack boots are torn Tires are beginning to crack on the sidewalls The car has just sat for a while in my shop. It is started regularly and driven on short drives around the block, but hasn’t seen any real driving time for a while (hence the small issues). Obviously, it is a unique vehicle that could really be nice with a little TLC. Probably would make a good race car, if you were so inclined.
