Vehicle Detail

Hello Everyone, and thanks for looking at this awesome piece of history! PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING!!!!! Up for auction today is an original 1959 Dodge Coronet Memphian USAF Air Force ambulance. This car started life as a standard 2 door Dodge Coronet, when it was sent to Memphis Coach Company, who installed the ambulance conversion and dropped the 396 CI engine in it for the US Air Force. I am assuming this was used either at an airport, or on a Aircraft Carrier because it does not look like it has very good off road capabilities. I found this vehicle sitting in a driveway a while back and hated to see such a beautiful piece being wasted, so I bought it from the owner, cleaned it up, primed it to keep it from rusting any more, and it has been sitting since. I am obviously not going to have the time to restore or mod. it, so it will go to the high bidder. Vehicle is NOT for sale locally, so bid for keeps, because at the end of the auction, the high bidder WILL be the new owner, regardless of sale price. Let me start off by saying that if you are looking for a week long or month long project, look elsewhere. This is going to be a BIG project to get back to it's original condition, BUT on the bright side, the vehicle is 99% complete, which means no hunting for parts, and all in all is in very restorable condition in the proper hands. Frame, drivetrain, all mechanical components etc, are all intact and almost entirely complete. One window broken(intact and there, but broken) but the rest of the glass is PERFECT!! Not a chip, crack, or scratch. Chrome is at least 90% there with only a couple minor pieces missing off the side, and most still polishes up nicely. Car rolls freely, and might start with some work, but I have not even tried to start it. It has been sitting for years, and I will let the new owner have the joy of hearing it start for the first time in years. I know the exhaust manifolds are missing of the original 396ci engine but otherwise looks to be all there. Also this has a push button style auto transmission. This is an air conditioned car with front and rear heat, and I believe it has front and rear ac too. There are USAF tags, "do not smoke" stencils, O.D. green straps, and numerous other things making its history clear. Yes, the stains on the floor of the car are what you think they are. If this is a concern to the winning bidder, I will remove the floor covering for free before delivering or pickup. If you plan on bidding, PLEASE KEEP READING!!!!! There are lots of cool extras that I am still finding out about this vehicle, like its dual climate control, flip up rear seat that folds into the floor, small side pockets, spin out ash trays, spot light, siren, this car is just LOADED with character. As far as rust and overall body condition, there is definitely rust through in quite a few places along the bottom of the car, and although I have not torn out the floor covering, I would probably count on putting new floor pans in the car. The floor feels soft and is partly rusted through in the driver front. As far as the rust goes, it is primarily limited to the floor and lowest points of the body panels. Otherwise, I don't think there is any rust anywhere else unless it is very small and confined. As far as dents and body damage, there is a large dent above the passenger headlights, a large scrape on the passenger door, and other misc dents and scrapes on the passenger side. The rest of the car(front, back, and driver side) is "almost" completely dent and ding free. There is a lot of crackling in the thick lead based conversion paint. The nice thing about this machine is that most of the parts can be replaced with regular Dodge Coronet parts. The driver and rear doors open and close freely(rear latch needs work) but the two passenger doors did not freely open so I didn't try to force them. I think a little wd-40 and they would work fine as well. AGAIN, PLEASE KEEP READING IF YOU PLAN ON BIDDING!!!! The dash on this car is in simply amazing condition! The glove box opens and closes, the ash trays spins around, the gauges all look excellent and there are no cracks, rust, or even fading! Very very nice dash. The seats are also in nice condition. There might be a small tear or two, but all in all they are very well intact. Please keep in mind that I do not know every small detail that is wrong with this. You are buying a project, and like any project, there will be unforeseen issues that will need to be dealt with. In summary, this vehicle needs a lot of repair, but is what I consider to be in VERY restorable condition, and is well worth putting some time and care into to bring it back to life. PLEASE KEEP READING!!! THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!! This vehicle will be sold with a bill of sale only. No title. The Air Force did not supply a title when they sold it, but since all the body tags are present and readable, acquiring one should not be a big deal. Payment, Pickup, and Delivery Options: A $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end. This is non negotiable, and the vehicle will not move until the deposit is paid. The car can be seen prior to auction end, or picked up after the auction in Pittsburg Texas, OR I can deliver it anywhere in the lower 48's for a flat rate of $1.75 per LOADED mile. Balance of sale price is due cash in person upon pickup or delivery. If you are interested in having me deliver the car, you MUST call me at 903-916-0117 to arrange details and schedule PRIOR to auction end. I require 50% of the delivery charge prior to delivery, and the remainder due when it safely arrives. Please feel free to ask any questions and good luck bidding on this wonderful car!!!! Below is a picture of this same kind of car restored, and another picture of a car similar to this converted into a drag car. Whatever your plans, this is a GREAT candidate for the project, and a rare opportunity. Happy bidding!!! CLICK HERE FOR ALL 63 PICTURES! On Oct-03-10 at 20:52:57 PDT, seller added the following information:THIS AUCTION IS FINAL!! PLEASE BID SERIOUSLY, BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A RESERVE AND WILL SELL FOR THE ENDING BID.
