Vehicle Detail
Wife insists that I sell my project. I have a 1982 Jeep j20 3/4 ton 4wd pickup. It is the definition of rough and the color would best described as rust. It is not in drivable condition now. I have had 3 mechanics look at it and have gotten three different problems. 2 of the three did not solve the issue and my wife has forbidden me to spend the money to try option 3. I will tell you everything I know to the best of my knowledge. I am not a Jeep guy, so if you have questions ask them, just do not expect technical answers. The Good: The 4wd system is the Seletrac with 4 hi, 4 low, and neutral. No issues with 4WD system. Exhaust pipes are less then 7 years old Tranny is strong, but does have a leak in the line to or from the radiator. No slippage. Tires , 245 75r16, less then 4 years old and less then 3000 miles. This is the j20 so the rear axle is the Dana 60 and the front should be the Dana 44 (I person has said it is also a Dana 60 on my truck but from what I have read online I do not think so. The description online for the 44 matches my truck.) Per previous owner the carb was rebuilt right before he wrecked it, that would be about 2004. The engine, AMC 360, will start and run for a few minutes, the longer it runs the longer it will run before stalling out. Oil pressure is 20 to 40 pounds all the time. This was my work truck, less then 1000 miles ayear, until I decided to sell it last November to a friend. I think it was hurt that I was selling it becasue the week before he came to get it I took it to get some lumber and it was fine. It would not start for him. See below for my boughts with mechanics since then. The Bad Body is rusty and rusted out in the normal places for these trucks. The engine will not stay running. I was told it was water in the gas. I had the tank drained and lines cleared - it runs better but did not solve the problem. A different mechanic said it was the fuel pump. I had the fuel pump replaced. Again ran better but did not solve the issue. A third mechanic says that the carb needs to be rebuilt this is where my wife stopped my spending. When I replaced the plugs and wires in 2004, when I bought the truck, 3 of the plugs were badly fouled. I have been told that the real seal is leaking. Windsheild is cracked. Cruise does not work, I know that there are numerous vacuum problems. No speakers for the radio tape player - never had them so no idea if it works, but who is looking at the Kraco anyway. The interior is rough and worn the headliner is gone, though the foam underlaymnet is still in place. Both of the kick panels are in fair shape. The dash is cracked. That is what I know or think I know. The Jeep is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. I have a standing offer from a scrapper of 200. Add in eBay's fee and you get the 300 price tag starting out. I really want to save this form the scrapper. I will help in loading tieing down or what ever else you need to move it. I do not have the means to move it myself and it is not drivable in its current condition. I expect payment within 10 days of auction end and removal within 20 days. I will accept cash only. -- I do have a replacement driver's front fender for the truck.--
