The car is registered in Massachusetts (I'll need the plates back) but is currently in Portland, Oregon. I drove it out.The car is mechanically sound (mostly; see below) but it is definitely used. I've done what I can to take care of it but sometimes things just happen. Like when I left the sunroof open and then got hit by a freak thunderstorm. The interior took on water and eventually the leather on the front seats became damaged. The dashboard, while generally in good shape has seen its share of wear and the rubberized coating on some of the controls has deteriorated. There are minor scratches on the exterior but, the body panels are mostly ding free. The bumper has one small section where the paint is cracked up because someone backed their car into it. The left rear lens has a hole in it where my friend's bike handle fell, the left-front lower grille is apparently missing (which I didn't know about until I looked at these pictures that my brother-in-law took).So, the AC doesn't work and it won't start. I nor my brother-in-law knows why. Could be that it needs new spark plugs or a new starter or a new battery. I don't know what it is doing when he tries to start it. All I know is the engine isn't seized or anything. Hopefully he'll be able to look at it soon. The coil pack was replaced with a new unit just over a year ago so I'm confident that wouldn't be the problem. Only after I got to Portland did the engine problems crop up. Getting it repaired has been a hassle due to me being in Virginia now and the car being left behind with my brother-in-law and sister. Interestingly, the place near them that specializes in VWs said they wouldn't even look at it.While the engine was fine during my cross-country journey, I did drive out with no AC. Lemme tell, ya. That was not fun. Midwest in the middle of August? Not doing that again. Not to mention that it broke even before I got out of Massachusetts. Holy smokes was I ever miserable.Disclaimer: I was hit by another car on the front-left as I was turning left. This obviously required repairs. It's probably also why the front-left lower grille is missing. I know I had it at one point after the accident, though. After the repairs I found that the tie-rod ends, ball joints and front-left wheel bearing needed replacing. I did these myself. Confidently. Heck, I made the drive to Oregon without my suspension falling apart so I must have done them right, eh?Biggest disclaimer: The cup holder is stuck in the dash.A few years back I swapped out the shocks and struts when it became obvious that they were going bad. I put in a stiffer, sportier Tokico package. It rides a bit harsher but when the engine is doing things properly it is definitely a funner ride.If you don't mind getting whatever needs to be done to the engine done, this car could be a good daily driver. The interior would need some work though, unless you don't mind the smell (see the above comment regarding freak thunderstorms and sunroofs). Otherwise the carpeting would need to be replaced. Basically, what I'm saying is, I'm selling it as is as either a point A to point B or a project/parts car.
