Vehicle Detail
Here is an opportunity to own a Packard recently recently recognized by Hemmings Classic Car Magazine as one of the 32 Best Cars to Restore (June, 2010). This 1954 Packard Cavalier is well on its way, and has made progress during our 2 1/2 years of ownership. The 327 Thunderbolt engine was rebuilt last fall by Speedwell Garage, just over a thousand miles ago. The Cavalier is a pleasure to drive, with smooth acceleration, power steering and a sound unique to one of the last Packard straight eight engines. The Ultramatic transmission performs very well. The Motor Trend Magazine from October, 1954, with a drive report for this car, is included. The tires have less than 2,000 miles on them. The battery is brand new. As the photos reflect, the car is in need of rust repair in the rocker panels and the dog legs of the rear quarter panels. It is also in desperate need of a proper paint job. Some chrome has been replaced, and the six spears on the rear doors unique to this model year have been rechromed. Also, a replacement NOS molding to replace the damaged one on the right rear door is included, as is an NOS right front vent window frame, and other miscellaneous parts and literature (see photos). The interior is quite presentable, although the upholstery and seats are not correct for this car (believed to be from a 1954 Clipper). As shown in the photographs, the NOS door panels that are included will be a substantial improvement. And now for some of the usual boilerplate: All questions must be asked before you bid -- the winning bidder enters into a binding contract; the car is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties express or implied; we reserve the right to reject bids from bidders with excessive negative feedback, or no feedback; the reserve is low, and will not be disclosed -- please don't ask; buyer is responsible for pick-up, including all shipping, insurance and transportation charges, although arrangements may be possible for delivery at a mutually convenient time at the Hershey show next week (we are a 1 hour and twenty minute drive from Hershey); a $500 non-refundable deposit is due via Paypal within 24 hours after "end of auction," and full payment is due within 7 days or less after "end of auction" in cash or certified check.
