Vehicle Detail
This 1958 Studebaker Commander is Completely Original, Unrestored. It is fresh from a 30 year hibernation in a dark garage. The car currently has 14,070 Original Miles! The car had 8k miles put on in its first 4 years, then sat until 1980 garaged and covered. Second owner drove it from Santa Cruz to Orangevale, CA. He was a car collector and wanted to keep the miles low, so rarely drove it. He passed and the car was left covered in the garage by his widow until the day I purchased it. The car is now runs perfectly. I had the radiator professionally rebuilt with a Brand new 4 row core ($600 because I wanted it to keep its original appearance). I had the fuel system cleaned and the fuel tank professionally boiled and sealed to better than new. The car starts instantly, idles smooth, zero smoke ever. It is the first year for the 259 V-8 matched to an Automatic transmission. It has no power options. It shifts effortlessly and pulls nicely. The car could be driven anywhere today. Maybe with the exception of the tires. It has its second set of tires. I have the receipt for the original style firestones. They are in good condition however very old. They were put on in 1962. I did not want to change them because the next owner will decide if he wants original bias ply tires or go with a more modern radial if it will be driven. The paint is in unbelievable condition, the whole car is really. Chrome is nice and shines as it should. There are a few light scratches and chips here and there but overall you would definitely think it was a recent restoration, but in fact is original. The color is Mountain Blue Metallic and Parchment White. Interior is MINT. Only thing is some of the foam under the seats is hardening. But there are no rips or tears anywhere. Pictures will speak much more to this than I can. This is a 100% rust free car with no restoration ever (except the fuel tank and radiator, and new battery, hoses). All glass is perfect with no discoloring, and rubber is soft with no cracking. It has always been in a dark garage. Underside has no rust, not even surface rust, trunk is perfect, looks brand new. I have documentation from new, all included and photographed. I am sure there are things I am forgetting and will update if necessary. I can assist in shipping. I can hold for a reasonable amount of time. I can have delivered to Port of Oakland for $225 and Long Beach for $350. Reason for sale is this car does not fit in the space I had originally planned to store it. It is garaged now and I have another restored car(worth more) sitting out, because they did not both fit inside. I am not a Studebaker Collector ( I like 20's-50's GMC trucks and would trade), and this should be in the proper hands. It is a much nicer car than I had even hoped when I bought it so it should go to the right person with respect for a super low mileage car. The only suprises with this car will be good ones. I have both original sets of keys that look as if they were never used. Here is a link to nearly 200 photos of the car in great detail-http://rides.webshots.com/album/578486564caVVcN The photos are chronological from the day I picked up the car. I took photos of things like the inside of brakes drums etc.. to show originality and that it has never been taken apart. There are still things like tape from the factory in body mounting bolts. Small piece of tape left in a door jam from when the factory applied the two tone paint. There are factory marks on each wheel and the rear end etc.. All still clearly visible.
