Vehicle Detail
1937 Dodge pickup, very solid, straight, original, and complete. I started with two trucks, one from California, the other from the Oregon High Desert. I've used the best parts from both trucks to make this one. I've put a lot of time and money into this project but have decided to let it go to fund a new shop, that and I have way too many projects. Truck is also for sale locally and auction could end at anytime assuming the reserve price has not been met. My plan for the truck was to install a late model T-5 five speed in it, spice up the flat head a little, replace the rearend with a Duster, or Dart 8 3/4 unit, and convert the front over to disc brakes. That way you'd have a sweet little rod that could buzz up and down the freeway and stop when the bozo in front of you with anti-lock brakes does. BODY: Body has been completely disassembled, professionally media blasted to bare metal and then sealed it in epoxy primer. The cab floors are very solid but do have a small area of rust next to the seat bracket (easy fix) I did have to repair one lower cab corner but was able to cut out and weld in a replacement section using the corner from the other cab. The cab does have some body filler in it as the roof had some dents in it. I tapped the dents out then used a minimal amount of filler as needed - this is not a "Bondo Bucket". The doors needed some metal work in the lower sections due to rust, the rust was cut out and new metal replaced the damaged areas, again a minimal amount of filler was used as a skim coat over the welded areas. The bed is extemely straight with only a couple of very small dings in it. The bed floor does have several small rust holes in it. The tailgate is in good condition, it is very solid but does have some dents. The hood is very straight and solid. The fenders are very good however they did have stress cracks in them as is common with fenders on vehicles of this age. I repaired the cracked areas by welding new reinforcing metal to the underside then welding up the cracks from the top side. The fenders will need a little more work prior to painting as i just tapped out the dings and dents and used filler in a few spots. The grill assembly is in good shape, however the grill center is broken and some of the lower section is missing. Headlight buckets are good but I don't have the correct lenses for them. I have the filler panels that go between the running boards and the cab/ bed but they are not in very good condition, they could be taken to a sheet metal shop and used for templates to have new ones made, these can be seen in the photo of the bed. Frame and Running gear: The frame is very clean as is the whole underside of the truck. The frame and running gear are from the California truck which an old fellow had been restoring prior to his passing. The frame had been primered and painted black prior to my buying it and it shows no signs of pitting, there are very minor amounts of light surface rust here and there. The front suspension and steering assembly are tight and in great shape, the rearend works fine too. I dissasembled the transmission, which is the original three speed, and put in new main bearings. It works well, but does leak a little 90 weight over time. The hand brake is complete and functional. The engine is a 1949 Plymouth flathead six that runs great. The brakes will need to be done, the brake shoes, drums, etc. are still on the truck but the wheel cylinders and mastercylinder are not. I did not get these parts when the truck came up from California. It will also need new flex lines. The hard lines are there and in good shape. The radiator weeps a little at the upper hose mount. New solid copper core plug wires and coil, newer 6 volt battery. What's needed: While the truck runs well and I drive it in and out of the shop it still needs the brakes done as I mentioned earlier. Also I don't have a gas pedal or throttle linkage from the pedal to the carb., I've been using a wire to run the gas, yeah I know that's hokey. The only wiring in the truck is a hot wire from the battery to a toggle switch and then to the coil to run it, so it will need to be wired. It will also need glass as I did not keep any of the old glass as it was cracked and fogged, any decent glass shop can order the templates and cut the glass as it's all flat. That reminds me, the window regulators are in the doors and roll up and down freely, the inside door opener linkage works too, and I have the handles and escutcheons for them. Also I dont have the floor panel that covers the battery and shifter area. No bumpers. Interior, I've put a third row mini van seat in it, it looks good and fits well, I did not keep any of the door panels, etc. as they were junk. I have two gas tanks for it, one has some rust issues on the top, the other stinks of varnished gas and will need the filler spout resoldered on, I've been running the truck off of a plastic boat gas tank sitting in the bed, it is not included with the truck. Extras and Misc.: Truck comes with original vin plate, bill of sale and more. I do have the spare tire mount post and clamp (shown in photo of the bed), there is a decent extra grill housing which I was going to use to make a custom grill until I found a good center for the original grill. Also included is a complete 1937 Dodge flathead Six engine, it came out of a local guys 37 which he hot rodded, it's supposed to be good runner but I can't verify that as I have not heared it run. I also kept the complete front axle and rearend out of the second truck. Buckets of bolts, hardware and misc.. Five original factory wheels. Factory air cleaner. A second windsheild frame. If the winner wants any or all of these they are included in the price, if shipping them presents a problem decide what you do and don't want. I think the second engine and most of the extras would fit in the bed of the truck. Some of these parts are shown in the photo of the bed. Also if you live close enough to view the truck in person you can arrange a time to do so. Ask any and all questions, I will get back to you asap. If you're serious and would like to talk to me, email me your phone number and a good time to call. Payment: $500 down via Pay Pal within 24 hours of the auction's close, balance due within 7 days of closing. All funds must be recieved and payments clear before truck leaves. If you would like to pay cash at the time of pickup better yet. Buyer will be responsible for shipping, I will do all I can to facilitate, like loading of the extras, meeting with your courier, etc.. Truck is sold as is, where is. Thanks :)
