BEST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED! I have owned this car since 1991, right after the warranty (50,000 miles) ran out for the original owner. In the entire run of the Mercedes 124 chassis (1986 - 1995), this is the only year for the diesel wagon. My wife and I have driven this car an additional 215,000 miles (odometer now shows 266,000 miles). Until recently, this car was driven daily. Car is presently used sparingly but starts immediately when needed. Engine - 3 liter in-line 6 cylinder diesel has needed very little maintenance. Alternator, radiator, glow plugs, diesel injector pump seals, fuel primer pump, coolant hoses, belts have been replaced as needed. If you surmise that the water pump, power steering pump, injector pump, etc. are still original, they are. Turbocharger is out but doesn't impact engine operation or smoothness (just a little less power). Engine has never overheated thus no internal work (head gaskets) has ever been necessary. Car does not burn oil. This is a fantastic, well-engineered power plant. Transmission - 4-speed automatic overdrive. 2nd to 3rd shift is abrupt. Transmission has small front seal leak. Transmission will need to be rebuilt in near future. Suspension - Rear automatic load leveling shocks need to be replaced. Tires - excellent tread left as this set has only 2-3,000 miles on them. Exterior - Anthracite Gray - Various and sundry door dings. Some rust around tire jack ports in lower rocker panels as well as right front fender and inside right front wheel well. Car was struck by an out of control vehicle on black ice and left rear bumper and tail light were broken (both were replaced). Same vehicle then struck left front fender and front bumper. Crease over left front wheel opening and crack in front bumper remain unrepaired. Both rear quarter panels are primed in gray at present. Interior - Palomino - Wear evident on both outer front seat back bolsters, Driver's seat has large crack in leather. Numerous spider cracks in wood grain on console. Original radio failed 2 years ago and car has Alpine AM/FM/3-Disc in-dash CD changer in its place. Original broken Becker radio will also be delivered with car. Heater works well but AC does not work. AC compressor, receiver/drier, expansion valve and AC hose replaced years ago and system converted to 134A but system failed soon after this major repair (suspect compressor failure). Front and rear wipers, washers, rear defrost, power windows, power locks, power seats, all lights, gauges (except outside temp.) all work. Rear third seat (option) rarely used. Why am I selling? - Car needs tranny re-build, turbo re-build, rear shocks, and AC repair as well as some body work. Car no longer resides where I live and I simply don't have the time to fix it up anymore. These wagons are somewhat rare and are incredible machines. With a little elbow grease and TLC, this car has many, many miles left. Car could also be used as a donor but personally would hate to see it put out to pasture.
