Vehicle Detail

1960 Nash Metropolitan 2-Door Hardtop 3-Speed / 1500 cc with Flying Lady Hood Ornament "Never-ending cuteness!" "Pure automotive whimsy!" "Economical, yet a joy to drive!" These are but a few of the typical reviews of the Nash Metropolitan. Designed in the United States, but built in England and marketed in North America, the Nash Metropolitan was originally conceived in the fifties as a second family car. This charming classic is perfect for Sunday cruising and car shows, summer evening trips for ice-cream, and getting groceries. But be prepared! The Nash Metropolitan is unique in its styling and possesses an enduring saucy, yet cuddly, quality. Wherever you take a Nash Metropolitan, expect turning heads, smiling faces, and exclamations of "It's so cute!" Production of the Nash Metropolitan ran from 1953 - 1961 and was divided into four series. This 1960 Nash Metropolitan is part of Series IV which ran from 1959 to the overall end of production in April 1961. Series IV was a major re-design that saw the addition of an external decklid (previous models only allowed access to the trunk through the rear seat back) and vent windows. This particular Nash Metropolitan was built in December 1959, but is titled as a "1960." Cars took at least 6 weeks to be shipped from the factory in England to the American distribution network. As a result, the actual titled dates of the vehicles are not the same as the production dates. Historical and mechanical information on this fascinating little car is readily available on the Internet. Worthwhile sites include www.metropolitan-library.com and two car clubs (Metropolitan Owner's Club of America (www.mocna.us/) and the Nash Car Club (www.nashcarclub.org/). Despite the vintage of the Nash Metropolitan, parts are quite easily obtainable. An Internet search for "Nash Metropolitan Parts) will yield the names of several comprehensive parts suppliers. To our knowledge, we are the third owners of this 1960 Nash Metropolitan. The first owner was a long-time Met enthusiast from Manitoba, Canada and a local Met car club member who had to sell his collection when he moved to a nursing home. The car was purchased in 2004 by someone who did not do any restorative work on the vehicle, but did install four new tires and had the brakes done. We bought the car in the fall of 2009 and have enjoyed giving her "TLC" over the past year. We have other plans for her garage bay, so we are looking for a new home for her. To date, the following work has been done on this Nash Metropolitan: *Paint reconditioned and extensively polished *Body, including under-carriage, engine compartment, and trunk, has been cleaned and detailed *Under-carriage has been sandblasted and painted, "Chassis Black" *Interior of decklid has been painted *New carpet installed in decklid *Trunk interior has been cleaned and painted with "trunk splatter paint" *Air cleaner has been sandblasted and painted *Paint on radiator stripped to reveal brass plating and copper tubing *Rear bumper was just rechromed *Brand-new clutch cylinder installed *Brand-new wiper blades installed *Brand-new spare tire hubcap installed *Rear license plate lamp installed The Data Plate contains the following information: Chassis # E79643; Body: 80761; Model: 562; Trim: T971; Paint: P914 (Frost White) / P908 (Classic Black) Odomometer: 97,182 (actual mileage unknown) We have a photocopy of the Owner's Manual and a CD on the comprehensive Technical Service Manual. They will be included with the vehicle. Listed below are the car's issues: *Stone chip in windshield *Both driver and passenger lower kick panels are showing paint bubbles *Spider cracks and lifting paint below driver's door handle *Lower front valance has rock chips *Black/White interior upholstery is in fair condition, but aged *AM radio does not work Importing a vehicle to the USA from Canada information: VEHICLE IMPORTATION GUIDELINES (Vehicles Manufactured for Sale in a Country Other than Canada) January 4, 2010 The following provides information concerning the importation of a passenger car, truck, trailer, motorcycle, bus, or multi-purpose passenger vehicle (MPV) that was not originally manufactured to comply with U.S. or Canadian safety standards. Importers of motor vehicles must file an HS-7 Declaration form (available at ports of entry or at http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import) at the time a vehicle is imported to identify the basis for the vehicle’s entry into the United Sates. As a general rule, a motor vehicle less than 25 years old must comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS) to be imported on a permanent basis. Vehicles (other than motorcycles) manufactured to comply with the FMVSS will have a certification label affixed by the original manufacturer in the area of the driver-side door. Motorcycles will have the label close to the intersection of the steering post and the handlebars. To make importation easier, when purchasing abroad a vehicle certified to the U.S. standards, a buyer should have the seller verify in the sales contract that the label is attached and present this document at the time of importation. A vehicle without a certification label cannot be imported as a conforming vehicle. In this case, the importer must contract with a Registered Importer (RI) to modify the vehicle and post a DOT Conformance Bond in an amount equivalent to one and a half times the vehicle’s dutiable value. This bond is in addition to the normal Customs entry bond. Copies of the DOT Conformance Bond and the contract with an RI must be attached to the HS-7 form. Under the contract, the RI will modify the vehicle and certify that it conforms to all applicable FMVSS. Before an RI can modify a vehicle, NHTSA must have determined that the vehicle is eligible for importation based on its capability of being modified to conform to all applicable FMVSS. If no determination has been made, the RI must petition NHTSA to determine whether the vehicle is eligible for importation. If the petitioned vehicle is not similar to one sold in the U.S., this process can become very complex and costly. A list of vehicles that have been determined eligible for importation can be found on NHTSA’s web site at http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import. Since the cost of modifying a nonconforming vehicle, or the time required to bring it into conformance, may affect the decision to purchase a vehicle abroad, we strongly recommend discussing these matters with an RI before buying and shipping a vehicle to the U.S. For federal regulations concerning vehicle emissions, contact the Environmental Protection Agency, Certification and Compliance Division – Imports Program, 2000 Traverwood, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, (734) 214-4100, or visit the EPA website at http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/. Information concerning duty or other Customs matters can be obtained from U.S. Customs and Border Protection by calling that agency at 877-CBP-5511 or visit the Customs and Border Protection website at www.cbp.gov. For information regarding titling, registration, or operation of a properly imported vehicle in a specific State, we advise you to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles or other appropriate agency in that State. Purchaser must fill out form #7501 http://forms.cbp.gov/pdf/CBP_Form_7501.pdf US Border Services will help with the paperwork. Car is sold in as is condition with no warranties given or implied. Buyer pays all shipping and pick-up costs. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have inspected the vehicle and to have satisfied himeself or herself as to its value and condition, and to bid solely upon that judgment only. Deposit of $500 US through PayPal within 48 hours of auction close. The seller prefers PayPal for the full balance, but will accept cash (in person), or bank-to-bank wire transfer.
