For sale is a 1968 Mercury Cougar. Not sure if it truly is a Dan Gurney Edition but there is a sticker on one of the window. Purchased back in 1996 from the original owner in TX who drove it off the showroom floor. In 1988 the original owner got a paint job and had the vinyl top redone. The Cougar has been garaged the whole time. It was my every day driver from 1996 - 1999. 3 years ago I decided to rebuild the engine and convert the existing C4 to an AOD transmission. Less than 500 miles since the rebuild. There is minimal rust and the body is very straight. The sequential lights used to work until I decided to upgrade to an electronic sequential unit. Since then it has not been working. Both of the hide away lights work except one of the light covers does not come back down. There is one rip on the drivers side seat. The headliner will also need to be replaced. Here is a brief description of the work I had done on the engine & tranny. The whole conversion/rebuild cost me close to $6000. This freshly rebuilt 302 cu in engine was professionally built for street performance with drivability in mind. It idles well, gets decent mileage and has very crisp performance. This 300+ horsepower smallblock coupled to a fresh Ford AOD trans is a perfect combination of crisp street performance and highway cruiser. The AOD transmission keeps rpm's down on the highway yet the low first gear ratio gives it low end pull. The 2" dual exhaust and chambered mufflers with ceramic coated headers gives it a very authoritive sound without being too loud.
