Vehicle Detail
Here is my 79 F-100 reg. cab short bed 2wd that I bought a little over two years ago from Vacaville, Calif. and have driven it ever since. It was bought new for the Vacaville school district as a maintenance vehicle and stayed in service until '07 when it and other vehicles were vandilized. The schoole decided not to replace the three broken windows and auction it off. There it went to a Farmer from the same area and had it for less than a year then I bought it and had it shipped to IL. I bought it for two reasons, 1. no rust and 2. shortbed. For those trucks that kinda hard to come by. Since it ws a maintenance truck it does have its share of dents and the right rear taillight area was smacked and filled with bondo. I ground out the bondo to survey the damage and to decide what to do. I have however driven it in the last two IL. winters and noticed to see some pinholes developing in the floor pans on both sides. I did buy new floor pans but didn't have the money to have them proffessionally installed so I cut out the small sections and welded in stainless steel. The cab corners, fenders, doors, quarter panels, tailgate and bed are in great shape except the few dents. I did but new NOS bed sides to replace but never did so I'll give that option to the new owner but won't be cheap. I have upgraded in many areas, Lincoln Mark VII electric fan, 3G alternator, footwell lights, CD, high ouput heater with heater box, headlight harness relay. Installed Autometer "American Muscle" oil and volt gauges, LED gauge lights and right now I'm using a Plymouth Prowler Tachometer that was converted to use in any vehicle. I will be removing that though, it was a expensive piece!! I have replaced all the weatherstripping including the velt belt mouldings with NOS, only ones that I didn't replace was the wing weatherstrip. The rubber mat is fairly new and the seat is original and in great shape. I noticed it's starting to get a crack in the vinyl on the driver's side though. Dash pad is excellent. I added the passenger chrome strip on the dash that minics the driver's side. On the exterior I replaced the front bumper and added NOS bumper guards. Grill shell is in great condition with exception of a little dimple in the center. I also added the "Exployer" hood ornament, I just like those. The back came with a ugly huge bumper with a hitch, ditched that and added the contour bumper and the tailgate is from my other truck which was maroon but I painted the outside to match. The inside is still maroon. The color originally was beige and sometime was sprayed white and not very good either.I replaced the tires about a 6K miles agao and are BFG Radial tires and using the sport hubcaps. The engine is the original 302 but I added a Edelbrock 600 carb and long tube headers, dumps into dual exhaust that exits in front of the rear wheels. The tip are dual polished stainless. At startup up I have about 60 psi oil pressure and drops to about 50 psi when running. At idle it's around 30 psi when fully hot. The original C6 transmission was rebuilt a year ago ($1100) and runs back to a open 3.25 gear. It has power brakes but no power steering. This truck runs and drives great and gets around 15 MPG. Brakes are great, steering isn't sloppy and the shocks are about a year old. I had intentions of completely redoing this truck and would still love to but I just bought a 02 Silverado and made a deal with the wife that if I bought the '02 I'd sell the Ford. Whomever buys this I think they will enjoy it as much as I have. Please feel free to give me a call for any question. 309-846-0827
