Vehicle Detail
RETIRED MILITARY TRUCK FROM VIRGINIA 1949 International Harvester Pickup KB-1 with original 214 Green Diamond 6 Cylinder Flat Head engine, 4-speed manual transmission, hubcaps and even includes original owners manual. This has a working heater from the factory, which works perfectly on 2 speeds, and the optional passenger wiper which works in concert with drivers wiper at it's own speed off 1 main switch. This vehicle has original mileage of 54,015 miles and it shows as being original, without odd modifications having been added over it's 60 years of life. Wires throughout are original "cloth" covered type. This truck is as close to museum quality as you will find, considering it hasn't been restored! Most everything on this vehicle is original with all parts there and everything working. I would state this to be a 9 on a rating of 10 as to overall condition. Please examine the photos carefully. We have provided lots of them for you in order for you to be able to make a decision as if you had the opportunity to personally inspect the vehicle here in Saint Louis, MO. Dad was told this vehicle was “garage kept” back when he bought it a few years ago and it has been garaged since he bought it. This was a favorite of his collection of 15 IH vehicles. This vehicle will ship economically to any part of the country given its central location in the US. We do have a shipper we will be glad to put you in contact with. They are a family business, being reliable and honest with us in over a dozen shipments in years past. This KB-1 pickup starts immediately and runs very smoothly with no engine noises (as you will see in the videos below) and the 4-speed manual transmission shifts wonderfully and the brakes operate strong and smoothly. The steering is tight and precise. The emergency brake band is in excellent condition and works as it should (this is a drive shaft brake band). All fluids including; gas tank, engine, transmission, differential, coolant, oil bath air cleaner (1 qt. oil) and brakes have been flushed and replaced and then operated enough miles to prove to us that this vehicle is road worthy. Carb has been rebuilt. New battery along with tune up (plugs, rotor, condenser, cap, wires). Engine radiator core and tank along with heater core and tank are solid and without leaks. Belts and hoses are all soft and strong. Exhaust is new with a split at rear axle into chrome dual tips. Sounds very nice and looks sharp. TIRES - As far as the tires are concerned the back mud grip tires are 30 years old and the front tires with "highway tread" are 40 years old. All 4 hold air and have not leaked in 5 years but we highly recommend your replacing them if you plan to do extensive driving, due to the natural cracking of the rubber over 4 decades. This should give you an idea of the minimal use that this truck has had and the proving indicator of it's true mileage. Updated head liner, rubber floor mat and authentic naugahide seat material set the interior off quite nicely. Even the original passenger side exterior door lock with a key is there. The sliding mechanism for the seat works smoothly and the back and underneath of the seat are unblemished and are original (springs and padding). The grill, all stainless and chrome are in exceptional condition. Notice in the engine bay, this truck has the optional and rare trumpet horns in addition to the factory edition engine mounted horn. Generator charges battery correctly with it's 6 volt positive ground system and the starter works properly using a pedal in the cabin as originally designed in the 30's and 40's IH trucks. Choke cable, throttle cable, dash light switch and head light/parking light switch work correctly. The doors all open and close smoothly and all door glass goes up and down in the channel as it should without restriction. The door handles, both interior and exterior, operate smoothly and the interior locks on each door handle work as designed. We purposely removed the foam 'door to body' molding, so as to provide visual evidence of the rust free condition of this vehicle underneath where it was. We will leave it to the new buyer to reinstall fresh new foam strips. None of the areas have rusted out including the windshield and cowl frame! These normally are in very poor shape. The floorboards are solid with no rust through what so ever. When the doors are closed and opened, you can tell by the sound and feel, that these have only seen the original 54,000 miles of use as indicated on the odometer. The front windshield, as well as the cowl vent, open and close smoothly for plenty of fresh air in warm temperatures. All of the glass is crack free and the rubber molding is still in very good condition. (Obviously kept indoors) Exterior condition: There is no body rust through on any of the panels or fenders or sheet metal or running boards and the only rust that you will see, will be light SURFACE rust underneath, proving the LACK of rust through even with the bed floor. The bed is the roughest part of this truck and you can see that easily in the pictures. Tailgate operates and hangs properly on its original chains. The paint, we were told, has been on the truck for roughly 15 years. It is certainly not perfect and there are some surface rust spots here and there but it has done its job of protecting the sheet metal otherwise. Note that the front bumper had the original solid bumper pan between the bumper and the body. These are missing on most of these trucks. All lights in dash including high beam indicator are operative and in addition to that all gauges work as they should. Headlights, parking lights and single tail light all work as should be expected. We are selling this due to Dad’s 80 years of age and lack of need for his over 1 dozen IH vehicles at this point of his life. This vehicle has been registered and insured and driven, but sparingly. You should be able to enjoy it for many years more than Dad will be able to anymore at this point of his life. We are sad to sell, but must. Please feel free to ask any questions and know that we will do our best to be of help to you in purchasing this fine truck. We will provide a phone number to those of you who request it. We have sold some of Dad’s collection this year and previous buyers have been pleased with their purchases. Our feedback should speak for itself, so know that you are dealing with a seller that will help you make this purchase with confidence and honesty. We must require that bidders have a minimum of 10 feedbacks and NO negatives due to the proliferation of non-paying bidders! If you have less than 10 feedbacks, Please contact us before bidding.
