Vehicle Detail

1951 Ford Custom Sedan 2-door, Flathead V-8 (rebuilt), 79,829 miles, delivered new in San Antonio Texas, 3-owners, 3-speed, overdrive, original condition with repaint. This 1951 Ford Custom Sedan 2-door (Shoe Box Ford) spent its life in the dry climate of San Antonio, Texas. It came out of the south and into the hands of a Michigan collector for summer use only 12-years ago. Under their care, the original Flathead V8 was rebuilt and the car was repainted. It was subsequently sold to another Michigan collector who continued to care for the car, always with an effort to preserve originality. This Ford has been kept in great shape over the years. The dry Texas climate preserved the body and frame. The interior is largely intact as original and in great shape, especially considering it’s 60-years old. The seat cloth may have been replaced back in the day but certainly fits the age of the car. The current owner had the mechanicals refreshed four years ago – replacing brakes/brake lines/brake shoes/master cylinder/wheel cylinders, and an engine tune-up with new components. An electric fuel pump was added to cure the common vapor lock issues. The car starts, runs, and drives great. It shifts through the gears with no noise or effort, just as it should. The engine idles smoothly and makes all the proper sounds that flathead V8’s are known for. The wheels are Cragger SS with new BFG radial tires; the original wheels are also included with the car. The rear shocks have been replaced with air shocks in order to adjust the rake of the car to accommodate the wider tires (easily switched back to stock). There are a couple of spots that need attention on the body of the car in the typical areas near the rear lights and near the body seams under the doors. Other than those areas, the rest of the car and the underbody are remarkably solid and rust free, evidence of its life in a southern, dry climate. This would be a great car to drive and enjoy as-is. It would also make a great platform for a street-rod or other custom application due to its original, solid, and largely rust-free state.
