I have a 1978 AMC Pacer for sale. According to the VIN, it is a 1978 although I have been told that the grill is that of a 1976. It has yellow exterior and black interior. I did not drive the car much because I used it to advertise my business. However, the car does not start right now. From what I can tell, it looks like it may be an electrical issue. The very few times I did drive it, felt like there may some issues with the suspension. The automatic transmission floor shifter is loose. I do not know if the transmission is the problem or not, but when I did drive it, there seemed to be no transmission problems. It probably also needs a tune up and definitely a brake job. The brakes are hard but I do not know how bad they are, I would expect that it needs serious brake work. Like you would expect in a 32 year old car, there is rust in some places and the paint looks a little tired. The interior is all there and is in ok shape with the exception of the carpet which is worn. The car shows 9000 miles but very likely that it really is 109000. It has AC, but blows warm. The radio/cassette player is not original and it does not always work. It appears that a previous owner replaced the steering wheel with a smaller faux wood one. One thing that I must say is that I am not a mechanic and have very little knowledge about the mechanics of a car. The above description is based on my observation and experience with the car and should not be taken as a diagnosis of what is really wrong with it. As for rust, there are some parts in the engine compartment around the edges that is badly rusted. There is rust around the doors and some bubbling under the paint. I believe that the floors are rust free, but cannot tell without removing the carpeting in the car. The car could definitely use some work. As stated above, brakes need work and could use a tune up. This car is truly unique. I do not know how many people have stopped me and want to talk about it. This car cannot be driven right now, it must be towed away. People my age want to remember and talk about the 70's, younger folks want to talk about Wayne's World and kids think it is the coolest car around. I have a clear Florida title in my name ready to transfer to a new owner.
