1980 VW Diesel Pickup Truck with AC and 4spd trans I purchased this truck in March of 06 from Yuma Arizona and had it shipped to Tennessee. I drove it off and on as a daily driver until Jan 09 and then had it retagged as Antique truck. I kept it covered and only resently put it back on the road. Everything on the works great, the AC will still freeze you out and the original radio still works. It drives and shifts great although you have to jiggle the shifter for 1st gear but once you get used to it you will have no problem. My mechanic said the shift linkage needs a new bushing to fix the problem. (Not a Transmission Problem) Since I've owned it, I've replaced the dash board and instrument cluster, brakes, timing belt, injectors, windshield, windshield gasket, tail light lens, and had new tire installed. There are a few issues, but nothing serious. The cover has caused some surface rust to come through the paint but there is no rust holes anywhere on the truck. When it rains it will leak water on the front floor, that is why I kept it covered. The water is coming in around the AC unit air intake in the cowling, it needs a new gasket. It could use some new struts, the passenger door panel is missing a piece of vinyl. Other than what I listed it could use some tlc to get it back in top condition. As I said there are no rust holes anywhere on the truck, the strut towers are in perfect condition, and the windsheild channels are solid. as you can see there is a little surface rust forming at the bottom of the wind shield and rear window, but only surface rust.
