Vehicle Detail

1960 Imperial LeBaron I am starting this auction over because the high bidder on the previous auction informed me the day before the ending that he was not able to obtain US funds from his bank in Iceland. I posted all of the questions and responses on the previous auction, including the high bidders email concerning this issue. In the interest of being completely fair and upfront I have decided to start over with a clean slate and a new auction. Thank you for all of the phone calls and emails! This beautiful sedan was a California car until I purchased it and had it shipped to Iowa. At the time I was looking for a 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood, but this Le Baron caught my eye. I did some research on the '60 Imperials and discovered that the Le Baron was Imperial's answer to the Fleetwood Sixty-Special. Production was very low, only 1,691 Imperial Le Baron's were produced in 1960 (according to the Imperial Club on Line www.imperialclub.com). Compare that to 11,800 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty-Specials that same year. Even when this car was new it was a rarity! I have never regretted buying this car instead of the Cadillac Fleetwood I was looking for. In fact, I think this Imperial gets more attention than the classic Cadillac's I have owned. You just don't see that many old Chrysler products compared to GM or Ford's. The car is in great condition. I do not use the word "perfect" because there is no such thing. I like to drive my cars, so although this car is extremely nice, it is driven, not trailered. The chrome, stainless steel, and glass are all in very good condition with lots of shine and sparkle. The car was repainted the original black by the former owner and has a very nice gloss to it as the pictures show. All of the hard to find LeBaron trim pieces, including the correct hubcaps and brushed stainless steal roof inserts, are also in excellent condition. The interior is equally as nice. The seats have been recovered and the carpeting replaced, again, by the former owner. The original dash, headliner, and upper door panels are all in excellent shape with no cracks, rips, or warping. The trunk has also been re-done with new gray lining. All of the weather stripping has been replaced and the car seals up well for washing or occasionally getting caught in the rain. It also makes a big difference when cruising down the highway; new weather stripping helps to keep the interior quiet. The car runs very, very well. A smooth and quiet 413 V8 engine (often referred to as a "wedge V8") and a Torqueflite automatic transmission has no trouble cruising around the Iowa country side at all speeds. And the Transmission has pushbutton controls; everyone who looks inside thinks that is so cool. This is honestly the best running and driving classic car I have owned. If I want to go to an event some distance away, or out of town for supper, this is the car I take. It has been very dependable. As I said before, everything on the car works, if something did not work, I had it fixed. Power windows and vent windows, electric door locks, power antenna, power seat, automatic headlight dimmer, wipers, radio, dash lights, etc. This car also has the very hard to find Mirror-O-Matic auto dimming rear view mirror, and it WORKS! When your headlights are on, so is the Mirror-O-Matic, when a car approaches behind you at night, the review mirror senses the lights and automatically adjusts your mirror down to get rid of the glare. It's basically like today's auto dimming review mirror, but this was 1960!!! I have added a modern radio beneath the dash, above the transmission hump. The original radio still has power to it, and it worked when we disconnected the antenna from it, but it is only an AM radio. The new radio has a remote, CD player, four speakers hidden under the dash and rear package shelf, and FM radio stations for those longer car rides. There are a few additional items that will be included with the car such as a variety of old magazine ads, a dealer brochure and the original owners manual. I also have a large framed display board that tells about some of the cars unique features. Lastly, I have another trunk lid, one with out the trademark Imperial tire stamped into it. It is all painted up and ready to be bolted on the car. It does include the necessary chrome trim and handle, but you would have to use the "Le Baron" script from the current deck lid. I have had several inquires about storage, shipping, and selling to someone outside of the United States. Storage for a few weeks will not be a problem if the winning bidder needs time to get transportation arranged. As far as shipping, I am not comfortable getting involved in those arrangements. I do not want to be responsible if there were a problem between the buyer and the shipper. I will certainly be available to meet a transport truck, give directions to the car, etc. As far as selling to someone outside the U.S., I can think of no reason not to (other than I hate to see the car go so far away!), as long as the payment is made in U.S. dollars and the buyer handles all shipping arrangements. This really is a great car, a great cruiser, and a real head turner. If you have questions about the car, I can be reached at 712-395-1112 or by email through ebay. Thank you for looking.
