Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a (relatively) low mileage 1990 Honda Hawk GT. I am embarrased to say that I have owned this motorcycle for almost 7 years and put only a little over 2000 miles on it; most of that mileage was put on in the first year. It has not been ridden at all in the last 4 years. I start the motorcycle regularly to maintain the battery and make sure it can still start regularly. I have registered the bike every year and had it inspected every year (except for this year). Here is some history of this particular motorcycle: I am at least the fourth owner. 2 owners ago was a doctor that lived in Ohio. This was his track day bike. How do I know this? because I have a folder of receipts from all the modifications and repairs he made to the bike. It is clear that he was not very good at this crazy racing thing. The scratches on the engine covers show he laid the bike down at least once on each side. No frame damage or scratches there. The radiator brakets are rubbed. The intrument pannel is rubbed. The tank is in good shape. Please look at the pics to get a better idea. Somewhere he managed to find some adhesive vinyl that matches the color of the bike perfectly. He used it extensively on the rear cowl , I can only assume to cover scratches and / or protect the plastic from them. I wish I could find more of it. The person I purchased the bike from never even switched the title over to his name. I am pretty sure he had the bike for at least 2 years. It was a third motorcycle for him and I don't think it saw a lot of road time. He was a mechanical engineer for GE turbines. He claims to have rebuilt the transmission. If this is true, he did not do a great job at it. The only mechanical problem I can report with this bike is that I have a hard time getting it in neutral. If I try when it is moving, it tends to drop through neutral and into gear. If I try when the bike is stopped, most of the time it will not go in to neutral. I have taken the bike to 2 Honda dealers to have this looked at. Both have said the same thing to me.. "If we get that deep into it to find the problem, we might as well just rebuild it. Is this a problem that makes you want to have us rebuild the transmission to resolve?" The answer both times has been no. I can cycle through all gears without issue while riding. The worse thing that hapens is sometimes I have to hold the clutch the whole time I am stopped at a light. I have had the bike maintained by a Honda dealership for the normal stuff and tune ups. I have a neighbor who is a race technician for a motorcycle race team. I have had him performance tune the bike. It is currently tuned to something close to track conditions. It is tuned for high RPMs. I ride aggressively and this was the performance I was looking for. You may find you need to re-tune the bike to your liking. This bike has been modified from stock in many significant ways: A stage 2 jet kit has been installed The forks and front wheel are from a CBR F2 The rear wheel is from a VFR 700 The front forks have gold cartridge emulators installed The handlebars have been replaced with racing clip-ons A very atractive left-exit exhaust system (from Jim Davis of Motomorphic) has been installed All exhaust pipes have been ceramic coated The shock has been replaced with an adjustable CBR 900rr shock providing a 1" lift to the rear A D&D slip-on exhaust can has been installed The bike has been safety wired (so that it can be allowed on a track) The rear brake line has been fed through the swing arm What this motorcycle is: 20 years old Excellent for a first bike, a track bike, a really cool collectors bike A real head turner. This is not a bike you see a lot of. It is often confused for an older model Ducati What this motorcycle is not: in factory new condition competition for a new 600cc sports bike I like this bike a lot. It is light and nimble. It has enough power to get out of its own way but not enough to make a new rider lose control and wrap it around a tree on the first ride. I have a couple of young kids and just do not have the time to ride anymore. Another note of interest. I am 6'5" tall. This bike is physically too small for me. I get cramps in my hips if I ride it for more than a couple hours at a time. I would not recommend this bike for anyone over 6' tall. Here are the factory specs on the bike. (The jet kit has added a few HP to the engine. The Ohio owner had it dyno'd once.) This motorcycle went by the name Honda Bros 650 in Europe. It also was known as the Honda Revere 650. It is very similar in body and parts to the Honda CB-1 made around the same time. General information Model: Honda NT 650 Hawk GT Year: 1990 Category: Naked bike Rating: 76.2 out of 100.
