Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Grand National Trophy Winner - This vehicle took second place in the Mustang Club of America Grand Nationals under the Daily Driver section, for 1979 to 1992. Through invitation, it was displayed as the only fox body Mustang at the 2010 International Auto Show in Salt Lake City. It is a California car with Californian registration and plates. As far as I know, it has never been driven in a snow storm. There are no rust issues. The car is in very good overall shape, and it is ready to drive anywhere in the US. AC blows cold, and the heater system is new and good. There is some surface wear on the seats, but no rips or tears. The body is not perfect, but still very good. The car took second place (instead of first) in the Grand Nationals for not having original wheels. I have them for a trade-out ($1,000 extra) for the rims shown on the car. The following items are new: Heater, windshield, suspension parts, shocks, vacuum pump, fan clutch, alternator, distributor, etc., etc. It has a 6-CD player in trunk (Sony). I get compliments all the time on this car, which is around number 65 in the most rare of Mustangs. It has been appraised at over $10,000. It is listed here without a reserve. The fax sheet on this car shows an extra 100,000 miles than I believe it really has. In 2003, someone made an error on the emission report, and that error has added mileage that my mechanics and I believe are false. I bought the car in 2007, and it appears to be too original to have that many miles. You can make up your own mind. I used to work with Carroll Shelby, and there is a Shelby signature on the air cleaner cover. I replaced the Mustang logo on trunk with "Shelby". The car needs a new padded dash, but I have it covered nicely with a dash protector. I never got around to fixing the cruise control. I am assuming the convertible top has been replaced. It goes up and down under power. Is it a real GT-350? Yes. In 1984, Ford commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Mustang by building a limited number of their most powerful and storied version of the Mustang, the GT-350. In total, only 5,261 were made, 670 of which were fuel injected, 5.0 Liter, Hi-performance Convertibles like this one. Sadly, less than half are known to exist today. Built on the “Fox” body platform, every one of these cars has the same color scheme: White exterior with Canyon Red stripes and interior. Is it a real Shelby? Yes and No. It is in the Shelby Registry. It bears the Shelby-owned trademark, GT-350. Both of these attributes make it a genuine Shelby. So how is it not a Shelby? Well, Shelby had nothing to do with the building of this car. In 1984, Carroll Shelby was off in Africa raising Brahma Bulls. He had had it with the US regulations on emissions and other manufacturing restrictions. Ford’s attorneys believed that Carroll had abandoned his trademark. They went ahead with this 20th anniversary vehicle, using the abandoned name, GT-350. It was built by the predecessor of the performance team (SVT) that builds the current Shelby GT-500 series. Carroll got wind of the project and sued Ford. The lawsuit was settled in 1990 for an undisclosed amount ($6.5 Million). The end result: Shelby had his trademarks back, he had agreed to let Ford use the “Cobra” name (for a fee), and he and Ford wouldn’t speak for almost two more decades.
