Vehicle Detail
Awesome Rebuilt 1971 CJ-5! Fiberglass Body and Hard Top included! I would love to keep this Jeep, but my family has grown and I can't keep it. I bought it in 2006, and have driven it on trips as long as Alabama to Michigan. It was my daily driver for 3 years, and has never let me down. My schedule is tight because I will be deploying to the middle east in a week. Please read this listing carefully and don't bid unless you intend to buy. I have enjoyed driving this Jeep as my daily driver, on sand dunes, and in deep mud. With the light weight of this vehicle and 12.5" wide tires, it dances where other vehicles sink. Bump steer is all but eliminated with the saginaw steering setup and power steering. The Buick 231 V-6 has plenty of power and easily drives highway speeds or climbs hills. The speedometer and odometer are calibrated for the 33" tires. While I'd call her pretty, this is not a show vehicle. There are little scratches and marks from working the trails. This jeep has been used as intended, and never gave up. If you don't want to drive her long distance, she tows well. The rear lights can be connected via 4-pin trailer wiring very easily. The ACME fiberglass hard top has one coat of cheap white paint on it. I tested picking the paint off and it seems to come off easily. The original black paint seems good beneath the white, and matches the doors. All the windows and window seals are in great condition on the hard top and the doors. Finding a fiberglass hard top for a CJ5 earlier than 1975 is all but impossible anymore. It took me two years to find this set. History: The previous owner completed a frame-up restoration in 2004. I do not know what the total mileage on the vehicle is, but I assume the current mileage displayed is since his overhaul. Features: 4” Super Lift springs 4WD Hardware fiberglass body (Painted Chevy Fairway Green) RARE ACME fiberglass hard top and doors Full roll cage welded into frame Heddman lifetime headers, dual mufflers 33x12.5 BFG All Terrain tires (approximately 3/8 inch tread remaining) and aluminum wheels New fuel lines and electric fuel pump All new drive shafts Custom Radiator BestTop SuperTop, some seams are torn. All hardware is serviceable, making a replacement cheaper BestTop bikini top (modified due to custom roll cage setup) Buick 231 V-6 engine, bored .030 over New pistons, cam, lifters and oil pump Cylinder heads polished Rebuilt T14 3 speed transmission Rebuilt original Dana 18 transfer case, bored to fit transmission Late S10 power steering system with saginaw steering, dropped pittman arm Dana 44 front end built with disk brakes (brakes are from a late CJ7) Replaced all the bearings and seals in the rearend (a stock dana 44) Exhaust temperature automatic choke Aftermarket windshield washer system Easily mounted towbar and easy hookup wiring for towing. Steel Hood and Grill are in excellent condition, with only minimal rust Known Problems: Reverse - goes into gear fine, but makes a noise when high torque is applied (going uphill or accelerating quickly). I had the transmission and drivetrain checked by two different shops. I put the transfer case in 4 Low when I need to go uphill and the noise goes away. Crankshaft bearings - There is a small amount of end play, I was going to replace the bearings but I am leaving now. Rear bumper - I pulled a Scout out of axle-deep mud and bent the lower edge of the rear bumper down. I planned to install a custom bumper and tow hitch to replace it. Wipers - I have a brand new motor, but cannot find a serviceable wiper linkage for this year. I have been using a manual wiper, and have had no problem with that setup. With Rain-X on a flat windshield, heavy snow or rain has not been an issue. Windshield frame - I found some rust. I removed the bad metal, treated the frame, and riveted on a patch. This is another item I was going to replace. Fuel Guage - It always reads full, I just used the trip odometer. I checked the connections and ground, and planned to replace the fuel sending unit eventually. The reserve is set low, and the Buy it Now price is far less than I have invested in this Jeep. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. I have done my best to list everything I know is wrong with this vehicle, and will add anything I remember.
