Vehicle Detail

I am acting as a sellers agent on this auction. The owner is a friend from work and this is a car he inherited from a brother recently. His brother spent a lot of time and money doing this restoration and did it right. He wasn't quite finished when he passed away and never got to do the engine. That's about all that's left to do to have a real head turner and show winner. Here's a brief listing of some of the features: Original color New cloth headliner New seat upholstery New carpet and floor mats Tires are in great shape New window rubber all around I just drove this car. I know Volkswagens and have owned several in the last 35 years. This car drives beautifully. It's quiet, has good power, starts right up, and is a very drivable car. The only issue I saw was that when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd I had to take care not to hit reverse. I believe that the problem is that the reverse lockout plate under the shifter is installed wrong, an easy fix. The owner said that the shop that did the restoration here in San Diego went to great pains to do it right and never used any bondo. The doors (all of them) open and close nicely. It's a solid car. You can see the pics of the pan which looks great without any cancer. Steering was tight and the car tracked very well. It would be hard to find another 1961 bug that drives as well as this one. Please note that the mileage is probably not accurate in the listing, it's what's displayed on the Speedometer. There are some flaws with this car and I'm going to do my best to point them all out. It's hard to tell in the pictures but there are two areas where the paint has been touched up with gray primer. They are small in size. There are also a couple nicks in the paint that could be touched up but they are not significant. With a bit of work the paint could be made to look 100% and I can include a partial can of the original paint from the restoration. A $500 deposit is due via Paypal within 48 hours of the close of the auction. Payment is due within 7 days and will be though a bank wire transfer. Cash is also an option. I have sold several vehicles through eBay and you can rest assured that I will do my best to make this transaction go smoothly. I have experience shipping vehicles both internationally and domestically and will be happy to help with arrangements. On Aug-02-10 at 12:30:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Update-Monday The car is painted Beryl Green which is the correct factory color for this year/model. The vehicle remains 6 volt like it was from the factory and has a 1200cc engine. The transmission is also of the original type. I can't say if the engine and transmission are the actual ones that the car originally came with. Here's a link to Photobucket and an album with several pics showing the restoration. http://s433.photobucket.com/albums/qq58/aeromech32254/RobertCampBug/Restoration%20Pics/ The owner told me he has receipts for $7700 for the restoration. New tires, seals, mirrors, window rubber, master cylinder, wheel bearings, wheel cylinders, brake linings, tie rod ends, transmission service, king pins&bushings, alignment, brake hoses, window glass, wing windows, fuel line, gas pedal, lid lock, dash molding, wiper blades, headliner, door panels, carpet, exhaust tip, too many misc. parts to list, sun visors, bowden tube, shift coupler, The owner gave me a box full of receipts. These receipts date all the way back to the previous owner and start around 1991. His brother purchased the car on October 10, 2003 and then did the restoration. There are folders full of receipts and I can't list everything. It's literally hundreds of parts that have been purchased. On Aug-02-10 at 12:59:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Update-Monday Afternoon Here's a link to all the pictures I took of the car this last Sunday. I'm adding this link to show all the flaws the car has. Please pay attention to close ups of the front bumper and the exterior paint which show flaws that can't be redily seen in the distance shots http://s433.photobucket.com/albums/qq58/aeromech32254/RobertCampBug/On Aug-02-10 at 17:31:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: Monday Evening The owner brought the bug over to my house this evening and I adjusted the gear shift per the Bentley manual. It now shifts and down shifts correctly. He also took some digital videos that I hope to post links to on Tuesday.
