Vehicle Detail

1970 Datsun 240ZSeries I – LOW VIN HLS30-05998 Paint Code: 903 Dark Blue Production Date: 6/1970 Transmission: 280Z 5 Speed Miles on Rebuild: About 40,000I HAVE MORE PICTURES PLEASE E-MAIL ME OR VIEW OVER 200 PICTURES AT: I ALSO HAVE RUNNING VIDEOS!! http://s792.photobucket.com/albums/yy204/chioug/HLS30-05998/ I have for sale one of the first 6000 240Zs that stepped ashore in the United States, VIN # 5998. The car is titled as a 1971, because it was not bought until late 1970. These cars are arguably the most famous Japanese Sports Cars in history due to the fact that it changed the way we saw Japanese Cars in the U.S. This little blue 240Z spent all of its life in Southern California until I picked it up and shipped it to Northern California. The car comes with California Blue Plates to prove that it has never set foot outside of California. The car was purchased by me on November 1, 2009 from its second owner in Glendale, CA. According to the last owner, I am the third owner. The engine is a L24 with a non-matching number but it is a Series I motor, meaning it came with the super rare “NISSAN 2400CC” valve cover. The transmission was replaced in the early 90’s with a 5 speed manual transmission from a 280Z, and the rest of the drive train has been untouched. Exterior: This car was painted in the early 90’s and does show its age. It was not an $8,000 paint job, but the job was done well enough to shine and gleam in the sun. The clear coat is still good without any fade. The chrome on the bumpers is still good for its age with no rust issues. There is no rust on the exterior of this car. The frame rails, wheel well, dog legs, battery tray, hatch balcony, rockers, and all are rust-free. This is not a vehicle that you receive and it has major rust issues. With exception to sand paper removable surface rust on the undercarriage (absolutely no rot/cancer), this car is a prime candidate for a pretty daily driver. The body does show a little age with a few dents here and there, but no major body damage. Besides the windshield, all the glass is original and has NISSAN stamped. The hatch also has the original vertical defrosters. The emblems on the quarter panels, when I bought the car, were the Series II “Z” emblems. I later replaced these with the Series I “240Z” metal emblems as seen in the picture. Please look at the many pictures I have provided. The Series I hatch vents were cleaned up so that they would not cause rust on the hatch balcony; the original vents are still there. As you can see in the pictures, the car has the rare “D” hubcaps that came on the first few thousand cars. All panels are original. The undercarriage is completely covered in undercoating. Interior: The interior of this car is the best part of this vehicle. It is definitely 9.5 out of 10. The fully restored seats and carpet are complemented by a completely CRACK-FREE and FADE-FREE dash; something that is highly sought after in Zs. The glove box, center console, gauges all are in mint condition. The gauges all work, and the OEM clock was replaced with a neat late 70’s/early 80’s analog clock. The car has ice cold A/C and cruise control installed. The components all are stock looking. The leather shift boot has been replaced with a fresh MSA MADE IN JAPAN Series I leather shift boot. I have also added a 5 speed shift knob, complements of MSA. The sun visors are also Series I, and the roof lining is perfect as well. All the interior lights work, including the dome light, glove box, and HVAC area light. Electronically, this car is SOUND. The famous Series I parts such as horizontal-only dash vent, jack and tool kit behind seat, Swiss cheese rear deck, and 10 degree reclining seats are all there. The driver side floor pan has a very minor ¼-1/2” non-rusted hole, due to someone jacking it up from the wrong spot. It was treated with POR-15 Rust preventive inhibitor, and has no rust. Passenger floor pan is completely Mint. Engine: As mentioned before, the engine does not have matching numbers. However, it runs completely mechanically sound with recently tuned SU Carburetors. The engine is completely OEM with the “Nissan 2400cc” valve cover. The engine bay area paint was never repainted, but it does look relatively nice for its age. The alternator was replaced with a 280ZX Turbo higher wattage alternator and the external voltage regulator was removed. Mileage on the speedometer is around 57,000 but the engine was rebuilt some 40,000 miles ago from what the previous owner said. Drive train: The transmission is out of a 280Z 5 Speed. It shifts very smooth with no problems, and is rock solid. Suspension: I have recently swapped in Tokico HP Shocks with Tokico Springs into the car for a better feel and handling. The car runs smooth with no major issues. The tires were replaced with brand new Bridgestone tires a month ago, with less than 400 miles on them. The wheels are stock with the famous “D” hub caps. The master brake cylinder was replaced with a NEW remanufactured MC for better brake feel. The brake booster is a NEW remanufactured OEM, and just put in this week. Overview: This car is not a show car, but an excellent example of a surviving rust free Z car. It is a very good daily driver car that someone can work on and enjoy at the same time. Everything you see in the pictures is what the car comes with. Upon the sale of the vehicle, I will include original alternator, and a full set of Energy Bushings (Front Sway Bar End links, bump stops, steering coupler installed already). I will also include a packet of receipts dating back to 1976 that I received from the previous owner.
