Vehicle Detail

1964 Chevrolet II Nova 400 “Shoe Box” 283 Vintage Look Reasonable Rides and Rods presents this cool little 1964 Chevy II Nova Sport Coupe. This Nova was originally equipped with a 283 and 3 speed column shift manual transmission. It now has a mild NOM 283 (1966 date code) and floor shift. Similarly equipped to the SS, this car had many trim upgrades, and was a factory V8 car. Originally a California car, this is one of the straightest and rust-free examples of an old Nova. When we acquired this car, the original blue paint was still on the floor pans, although it was faded. We painted the bottom of the car black, but the original paint is still underneath. The car has been repainted the original color of Silver Blue Metallic (code 912 per trim tag), but we added satin black accents to give it that vintage racer look. The paint quality is great and makes for a cool presentation. A new Goodmark cowl induction hood was also added and given the satin black treatment. The paint is only a couple of months old and is a high quality job. The engine compartment was also treated to a satin black finish. This Nova has a new gas tank and sending unit, along with new fuel lines. The trim is all in good condition with only a few small dents in the drip rail moldings. The front and rear bumpers are new and show quality. The grill is driver quality and has a small dent in the center. The glass is all in great condition, but the windshield does have some tiny chips and a scratch from the wipers. The front suspension has been rebuilt and all components were blasted and repainted black. A new CPP manual front disc brake conversion was completed with all new brake components including brake lines, brake hoses, rotors, pads, and master cylinder. New rear shackles and leaf springs were added to complete the suspension. This car is by far one of the best driving old Novas that we have ever had. It is equipped with manual steering, but as light as the car is, it steers effortlessly. The engine is a 1966 date coded 283 upgraded with a four barrel intake and period correct Quadrajet. The engine has been rebuilt and tuned and runs like a top. The exhaust is new and has two small Flowmaster mufflers that dump at the rear axle. The sound is a nice rumble that isn’t too loud. The transmission is the original 3 speed manual, but has been moved to the floor with a Hurst shifter. A new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing were just installed. A new correct 4 speed floor hump was welded in to give it that factory correct look. The engine and transmission combination work flawlessly together. The rear end is a non-posi GM 10 bolt with 3.08 gears. This should probably be the next upgrade, but also makes for great cruising as-is. The interior is all new including: carpet, door panels, kick panels, dash pad, visors and headliner. The front and rear seat covers are custom stitched vinyl and cloth in blue and black to match the paint scheme. The interior still needs new pillar posts and some trim around the headliner. Both are minor issues that we hope to complete prior to the sale. The car rides on 15 inch Drag Lites and new BF Goodrich TA Radials. They really add to the vintage racer look. This is, by far, one of the most solid old Novas that you will find. It starts, runs, drives and stops excellent. This car would be an excellent cruiser and would definitely do well at local shows. Starting with such a solid foundation, you will have a car that will never need much to enjoy. I highly recommend that you come and inspect and test-drive this fun little Nova.
